As my first (successful) hair dying venture, I want to throw a timeline up as much for my own reference as anyone else's π
Trying to take all my pics in natural light for ... fairness?
I let my undercut grow out quite a bit so I was bleaching more than just scalp. Pre-treated with coconut oil, left to ooze for a couple/few hours.
Bleached with a blonde box dye, Live XXL Max Blonde to be exact. On virgin hair, left on for the maximum time, came out looking like this...
Pasted the dye on with a tint brush, wrapped up, left for about 2 hours.
That was fine for a couple of days, surprised to have this great blue rather than turquoise. Then the shagginess of it (and the rub-off) was getting to me as I was working in the office, so I gave it a trim ... suddenly it looked patchy at the back! Disaster!
So I re-dyed it, left on for an hour or two maybe. Paid more attention to the "main" bits, kinda skipped the edges. Result: more even, but more blue!
I think this is a week or two after the second attempt:
3 weeks in, damn roots!
4 weeks in, plus a weekend of being out in the sunshine, it's finally starting to lighten up
Update: this is about 5-6 weeks after dying, it's getting so long I have to BRUSH it but it's closer to the colour I originally expected π except the horrendous roots of course lol
Going to have to trim it soon, it's getting really annoying ... but I'll be sad to lose my blue hair. Maybe just get the scruffy edges tidied up.
Final fade photo - 8 weeks
I had to buzz it off, it was horrible.
Maintenance: washing once or twice a week with Naked Shine (SLS free) shampoo, conditioning with Aussie Colour Mate or 3-min Miracle, rinsing with cold water. Actually pretty much gave up on the cold rinses for the last few weeks but in the initial stages I think it was a big help.
I'll keep updating until it's gone. I'll probably lose the rag with the regrowth and buzz it off before it's faded completely though π (yep, I did)
Looks good!
I love the combination of dark brown + turquoise hair, and I actually like the effect of the roots coming through! Fantastic fade so far.
It looks really nice, surprised it covered the more yellowy parts so well!
Thanks π I'm also really impressed at the covering power, I had thought the yellowy parts would go a bit green but it's only just starting to turn now
Trying to get a pic of the back but it's awkward...
OK this is weird. Same head, same time, same place, same ipod camera ... but one looks turquoise and one looks greenish. Oh well
.... jesus, those roots are longer than I usually have my whole undercut :/ it's coming off SOON
Oh, another point; I haven't had any rub-off for ages EXCEPT for occasional spots on pillows if I get hot at night. Keep forgetting to t-shirt the pillow, haha
