My extremely boring timeline :)

Hi!  ^^
Here is my quite boring timeline... But I only started dying my hair last year.  I have a feeling my whole head will be dyed by the end of this year, because I keep getting frustrated it's not dramatic enough.   I guess it's a slow start to an obsession.

Please forgive my stupid pics, but many were done for photography school.  :-[

Okay, so starting out is my natural color... Kind of a coppery brown, I suppose.  It's mousey looking, imo.  I hated it!

My first dyed color I went with was... Black.  Haha, stupid... but I loved it, so that's all that matters.

After that, I got some bug to go RED... And it was quite awesome, actually.  I adored that color and felt extremely different.

Went back to brown... which is boring and I won't post.

Then, I went to a hair stylist and asked for rose-gold hair (my first unnatural color experiment).  I asked for large panels underneath my brown hair, so the color would show with movement.  Baby steps.  But, she gave me sort-of highlights of rose gold... and the color disappeared in a weeks time.  Plus, it wasn't enough color for me.

So, a few weeks after that, I went to a new stylist and asked for pink ombre.  We used Atomic Pink...

And!  Last!  I just had my stylist bleach me out again and I went purple/pink with Purple Smoke and Cupcake Pink...
But I washed it 1x, and it all came out.  Then my hair looked really sad, since my hair is not bleaching out well... and I tried to put some color in at home, and it's disaster in my opinion.  πŸ™‚  But that's the end of my journey so far!

Lovely colours πŸ˜€

When you used the cupcake/purple smoke mist, did you apply to freshly clean and unconditioned hair?  Veggie dyes don't stick very well to hair that has any product in it, including conditioner.  You also should let them develop for at least two hours--they're conditioning dyes, so they won't damage your hair at all (they actually act a lot like a deep conditioning treatment).

Oh, thank you!  πŸ™‚

Honestly, I didn't do any of that before applying the colors... haha.  I just did as my stylist had suggested, which was mix the colors in with conditioner and apply.  I didn't know how long to leave it on though.  :/  And my hair was a few days unwashed, so it definitely had product in it.  Should I try to re-dye?  It just looks so... not dyed right now, haha.  It's like bronze/brown!  I don't even know how that is possible.

It sounds like it toned your hair more than anything.

I would give it a good scrub with shampoo (clarifying if you have it), don't condition, dry it, apply the dye and let it sit for at least two hours.  Put it under a cap or clingfilm to keep the dye moist.  Some girls here sleep in the dye.  The longer you let it sit, the richer the colour will be and the longer it will last.

Also, how deep/yellow/ginger your base is will have an effect on the dye.  You can't get a pastel over anything but a very pale yellow or white base.  If you have a medium yellow or darker base, it might be an idea to start off with a stronger colour and then dilute it every month when you lighten your base.

I don't think it's boring at all, I like seeing the baby steps before the madness! Also I like the photos, specially the light in the first one and the redhair one, quite lovely!
