It's been almost a year since I joined the forum, and I feel like my hair has changed enough now to be able to do an actual timeline. π
First photo is before I went red. It's pretty close to my natural colour, but I had an ombre done in January of 2012 and this was taken in early May.
Before I found the forum, I wanted to go bright red but was having a hard time figuring out just how. I found all those lovely YouTube videos on how to get red hair without pre-bleaching. I used a product called Matrix SoCOLOR in SoRED. I had hoped it would lift my dark dyed hair... as the person in the video said it would, you would just have to do it twice. Which I did. And I paid dearly for (lots of breakage).
It wasn't nearly as bright as I hoped it would be, so I went searching for what to do next and found another YouTube vlogger who used semipermanent colours over highlift dyes. So I topped the above up with SFX Hot Lava and got this:
Which faded to this (and I LOVED):
When it came time to do my roots after that fade, I switched to Majicontrast in Red to lift my naturally dark hair because it was more orange (the Matrix was more pink). I also started adding a bit of Candy Apple to the Hot Lava over the Majicontrast which gave me this:
Come September, I grew weary of growing out my hair and also weary of all the breakage from double processing and having to be super careful with my hair all the time... so I went for the chop. About this time, I also switched to using SFX Nuclear Red with just a touch of Candy Apple over the Majicontrast:
In January of 2013, I was bored of red and so I dyed the bottom section black which looked like this:
By early March, I was ready for something different, and so thought I'd begin going around the colour wheel for turquoise. I popped some diluted SFX Pimpin Purple (50/50 with conditioner) over my very faded Nuclear Red which came out looking a lovely eggplant colour:
I kept this for about a month, then when it was time to do my roots, I bleached my faded colour, too. The result was a mix of candy floss pink and salmon with yellow roots. I attempted to tone the roots with some heavily diluted Pimpin Purple and got a lovely fuchsia pink:
Which I faded for 10 days and wound up with this candy floss pink colour:
I kept the pink for about a week... and then I popped some Directions Turquoise over the top which gave me this really lovely blue! π
And that's where I am now. 8)
you're so pretty ♡ also your chest piece is beautiful!
all yoir hairs looks awesome! I like the longer length on you, but turq ia my fav
I love all of your hair colours, but I have to agree with Pippa that I really love the turquoise on you π
Ah, I love the short hair on you, especially turquoise! I'm so glad you embraced the alt colours after the red π
I love all the colours on you and yes the short hair really really suits you
Thank you so much, everyone! :-* I'm still not entirely sure if I'll go for the undercut or not. I think it would be cute and fun for summer... but I'm still scared.
I'm enjoying the turquoise. I'll probably stay here for a while. I have some Cerise waiting for when I get bored of it so I can go back to purple. π
I think it will look really nice with an undercut π
I love, love, LOVE your chest piece, it's fab. I too am a fan of the turquoise, that and the lush red of SFX Nuclear Red and Candy Apple. π
Gorgeous colours, you look great with all of them π
Love it - I think the turquoise is my fave! π
A xXx
I went to the hairdresser today because I have been really wanting to go back to a pixie. I'm not sure if I like it yet. It has been since 2009 that my hair was this short... so it's going to take some getting used to, that's for sure! There's something wonky about my fringe. I'm sure it'll just take some time to figure it all out. It's SO easy. OMG... like, 10 minutes to dry it up and style it. DONE. That, I love. π
I'm not sure if I need to rethink my two tone placement? What do you all think? Does it look okay the way the colours are placed... or should I decolour and start over? I'm not sure if I'd go all bright... or still do the two tone thing. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated! Thanks for peeking! π
Ahhhh it's such an amazing cut and really suits you! I like the colour placement as it is personally, but obvz its up to you! I had my hair like this once, you're making me miss it! π
Oooh that's a really cute cut! Looks really good on you! I would personally make the top part slightly bigger/lower at the back. So that the line in the middle photo is slightly less steep, if you know what I mean? But it's your choice of course! Looks good either way! π
Thanks girls! Valaina, that was something my hairdresser suggested as well. Right now, the bright colour only goes back just to the beginning of my crown. I might have to move it back a few cm's so that it's just over the crown. Thanks for the suggestion! π
Gorgeous π
