Coconut Oiled Curls

I washed my hair yesterday after a week (and after a good trimming last weekend), and without any silicones, it looks a bit dry after washing.  So I've been coconut-oiling just the ends and just leaving it in until the next wash.  Although I went a bit over the top with coconut oil yesterday, so it was looking really oily.  I thought instead of washing it out for work, I'd go with it and just try to style it last night anyway.

Last night I slept in those bendy rollers, not terribly comfortable, but they do alright.  I spritzed them with some leave-in conditioner (and a few spritzes of dry shampoo, I admit!) and unrolled this morning.  I loved the look of it, almost wet-beachy curls, but just after brushing, it had good body:

I thought the excessive oil might draw it down over the course of the day, and it did a bit, but it still had a good amount of wave when I got home tonight:

I'll see how long I can go this week without rinsing it out, but I'm sure I'll be sleeping in some sort of rollers or bobby pins again tonight to keep the style.  And the ends are looking a bit oily, but I'll dry shampoo it again and see how long it lasts.

I guess I'm just very pleased to be able to style with oil in!  πŸ™‚

It looks great, I find coconut oil actually encourages natural curl. When I over oil, I just plait mine.

It's really nice; I wish I could get my hair to curl like that!

This looks so pretty! Like perfect, beachy, playboy bunny hair πŸ™‚ Love it! Your color still looks gorgeous too, the 2nd photo especially looks like something from a fashion ad <3 I want pretty curls like you have! What roller things do you use?

Thank you! :-*  The style is starting to deteriorate as the week goes on, probably because of applying too much coconut oil, but I'm determined to go as long as possible without washing.

It's so good to hear that about coconut oil, @WickedPixie!  And I'm sure you've experienced it because of the length and texture of your hair, thank you, I shall carry on using it and encouraging natural curl.  I can't wait till my hair is as long as yours, ha ha.

I'm really pleased with the colour too @KatieSiepierski, and this time I used Crazy Color Violette, which seems to have had a similar effect to Pravana Silver used as a toner, much cheaper and available at my local at the moment (never know if/when they'll run out!).

Used the bendy rollers, and they're good because you can wrap/wind the hair around them similar to the electric "wand", heatless and the same effect.  But they're really not completely comfortable sleeping in!

I may try bobby-pins tonight, or plaits as you mention WickedPixie, something else to keep myself from needing to wash tomorrow.  I quite like not having to wash my hair during the workweek, it's a lot less hassle... just hope I don't look scruffy. πŸ™‚

I used to twist my hair overnight. Just twist it into buns when wet, add hair mousse, go to sleep and wake up to curls! I didn't find them to be that uncomfortable either.

Here's another girl doing something similar:

It dropping will definitely be partly because of the oil. But probably a lot to do with you training it straight with the keratin straightening for so long. It takes a while to coax it back to stay πŸ™‚

@Valaina, thank you!  I'm going to try that.  I've tried a single twisted bun at the top of my head, then I tried two because I think you need really long hair for one to work.  The two were a bit better, but I didn't really think about trying several, ha ha.  I'm going to give that a go tonight!

@Janine, you're absolutely right, without oil, the style holds up a bit better over the course of the day.  But you're right again in mentioning the keratin - I still use it so I am resigned to the fact that I won't get my naturally-curly hair back and will have to set it to give it body.  But I always hated my natural curls anyway, and it never grew, so I suppose the straightness is the better of the two evils.

Oh and work with your parting! So your hair will obey when you take the buns out, in stead of ignoring your efforts to part it again. πŸ˜‰
