I've been thinking I'd like to do a cruella with one of the elements being black. I don't have a lot of confidence in my hair skills and I don't have anyone to help me, so darker colours seem like the way to go for now!
I've had bleached hair for a year now, it's naturally a pretty dark brown but I've successively lightened it enough to take vivid colours, although my base is pretty muddy unfortunately. I'd love a black and pastel cruella, but sadly I don't have the skill to get the pale, even lift required. My hair isn't damaged, but I'd still like to stay away from permanent dyes on my processed lengths, cause I sometimes use heat.
Anyway, I quite like the idea of a black & red cruella, but I'm not sure about it suiting me and I'm not sure about placement. I wear my hair in a side part (see picture), so do you think that the red should overlap the black, or vice versa? I don't think I suit a full fringe and centre parting.
I have these dyes, all by Directions:
Ebony (I imagine it's the new, redder formula)
Pillarbox Red
Rose Red
Midnight Blue
Lastly, with all my dyes, I've had the same fade pattern: the colour fades first on my lengths and the back of my head, but stays vivid for so so long around my temples and hairline, you'll be able to see it in the picture! Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks for reading, I hope you can advise me! π
it really looks like you and i have similar coloring.
i've done both red and black in the past, and was surprised that both suited me. and i've done all types of reds-- ones that were more orange leaning were the harshest against my skin, but they really made my eyes pop. so, i had a nice gingery red all through high school, and i missed it when i started changing it up. reds that are more pink based make me look healthy-- less pale i guess? so, i tend to gravitate towards those, now. but even super dark reds were flattering-- i think you'd do well!
i would actually put both colors in your side fringe, but not an even split. like... in that picture you posted, i see a streak of blue in your fringe closest to your part. i'd probably make that streak black, and the rest of your fringe red. or vice versa, depending on which side you choose to do which color!
Thank you so much pastina! Yeah, I'm sorry about the incredibly sideways photo, was right way up on my phone and computer :S
Well, my natural hair is pretty dark brown, was almost black as a child! I guess it's just the combination of the strong colours I'm apprehensive about rather than the colours on their own.
For the red, I was planning on mixing together Rose and Pillarbox to get a true red, although I'm confused as to how a true red fades; does it fade to pink? Orange? Neither?
As for the Ebony, I can't find a tonne of information about it, especially as it's been changed recently to a new formula. I'm hoping it'll be highly pigmented so I can stretch out my tub with conditioner. Has anyone here tried ebony?
For the placement, I'm thinking if I section it into a centre part to colour it, but wear my hair in a side part, both colours will be in my fringe, like you see in the photo. I'm actually fading out a pink and purple cruella right now, although the colours have melded and my purple has gone blue, grey and lilac in the lengths.. which sounds quite cute but it isn't nice on me haha! π
Also I forgot to mention... if you too are unsure of what colour to go next, feel free to post and share your thoughts! Hence the non-specific thread title xx
I think it will look great!
Thank you Intempestivity, your red is so lovely! π
go for the black and red, the colours together always look good, and i do love a cruella π
So, I did it! I'll post pictures in 'Show off Your Hair' once I can get a good picture.
I keep alternating between loving it and hating it: I usually wear a side parting, but it doesn't look right with this colour combination and I can't put my finger on why this is. I quite like it with a middle parting though, which is unexpected cause I don't like middle partings on me!
Both dyes are really nice to work with.
I can't wait to see π I love cruellas.
