Will dying roots darker result in colour bleeding?

Hey! So I *finally* got my hair the lilac colour I wanted, but now my roots are golden from a couple of weak bleach baths. I want the dark roots/silver hair look that's kinda popular just now so I bought a dark brown semi-permanent dye that's close to my natural colour to cover the golden shade and give me darker roots. However, my hair is obviously porous and really light, so will the brown bleed through my hair when I'm washing it out?? If so, does anyone know of a way I can stop it from happening?

Is it a true semi, ie a direct dye or a box semi that needs developer? The latter tends not to bleed, direct dyes really vary from brand to brand. the only thing you can do is cover the hair you don't want dyeing with a thick conditioner and/or foils, and try to rinse carefully without letting the colour run down the hair.
