Hello!
I am currently sporting dark purple/pink hair but I have found the colour makes my skin look more sallow than I'd like and I'm feeling the burn to go back to red. Once I'm back from holiday I plan to try and remove all the dye build-up using a colour remover (either Colour B4 or Decolour); I'm also hoping that it might remove some of the underlying henna, too.
If the colour remover works, I will most likely be left with a dull orange base (perhaps slightly more blonde) with 4 inch long dark blonde roots. My goal is a dark, true ruby red. I've attached a picture that shows roughly what I'm going for. I know I can't get it that bright though.
I'm looking for a dye that is highly pigmented and that will ideally last for a good amount of time. I've been eyeing reds belonging to Directions and Adore since they're within my price range and I've had experience with them both before, but I'm not sure which one to go with to get the colour I want. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears!
Thanks so much! π
In my experience adore reds are much more long lasting than directions, and they tend to be pink based which would work over orangey hair to give a true red colour.
It's good to know Adore reds last longer than Directions reds (at least in your experience). I personally prefer the consistency of Adore dyes as my hair is quite thin and I've always achieved better coverage with it! I'm thinking about going with Crimson as I've heard good things about it and it's among the only red dyes from Adore that I haven't tried yet. Thank you for your input!

Yeah adore is just a much better dye imo. I hope the colour comes out how you want it to, I'd love to see pictures when it's done π

Once I've managed to get around to it I'll be sure to show the results! ;D
A question, though. If you (or anyone else reading) have had experience with Decolour and Colour B4, which would you recommend? I'm currently under the impression that Decolour is better, but I'm not sure.
I prefer Decolour.
Just to throw this in there, I found it more cost effective to use Special Effects dyes as they were so much more long lasting than Adore or Directions I just had to buy them much less frequently! I used to use a mix of Candy Apple and Nuclear Red to make a deep but bright red.
If you do want to stick with either Directions or Adore I would say Adore as I found Directions reds a bit 'flat' where as Adore give a lovely shine!

Special Effects is a bit too expensive for me, unfortunately. In the future I'll most definitely try it out, but for now I'm probably going to stick to Adore since so far it's been sticking quite well on my unprocessed hair and is really cheap. The amount in a single bottle is also perfect.
I'll make sure to keep that mix in mind if I do decide to try SFX!
Hi! I used Adore Ruby Red a few years ago and my hair was very similar to your picture.
The results are in! My base was a bit of a multi-coloured mess but Adore Crimson covered it up like a dream. I'm pretty darned happy with how this all turned out! I've attached pictures of the base and the results.
Thank you all for your help! <3
Wow that looks awesome! Glad the Adore dye was right for you. Love your curls! 😍
