My hair is a faded purple to a red/auburn gingery brown now I want to go either all over gingery or a honey brown what can I use baring in mind I have about 2 inch natural roots , do I have to do a bleach bath first? And would I cover the whole hair?

I would use a color remover and other fading methods before using any bleach.
Chances are your base is already ginger or close to it.

It depends what colour the roots are. If they are darker then they either need bleaching to the same level as the rest of your hair so you can use a direct dye all over, or you need to find a permanent dye just for the roots that will match the colour you are going for on your lengths.
