Ok thanks will get a trim even though she did give me a trim when she bleached it.
What other colour could I try that would last longer that's similar to the lavendar? Even though I've only washed once it's still fading and there's hardly any lavendar left just a silvery colour or gray as my daughter tells me 😁
Would crazy colours violette?

I would go for a stronger pink based purple and dilute it with conditioner. Special Effects Deep Purple would be my first choice, it lasts around 3 months in my hair even diluted to a pastel. (I only CO wash every week or so though) Pimpin Purple would also work. Adores Violet Gem or Purple Rage would also dilute to a nice lavender shade. CC Violette would be too blue.

I've used pimple purple and violet gem before on a brown ginger base and it was too purple for my liking and faded to a reddish . Is there not a more toned down purple line the lavendar and lilac?

You need to dilute a lot with conditioner. Purple dyes will always look reddish on a warm/ginger base, but will be pastel lavender diluted on a blonde base

I use Tesco's own coconut conditioner, its about a quid.

SFX colours are quite thick so you need to combine it with the conditioner carefully or I find it can go bitty. Best thing to do is take a pea-sized blob of colour and mix it thoroughly with about a teaspoon of conditioner, then add this to a bowl of the conditioner only (enough to cover your hair). You won't need very much dye at all to make a pastel colour, but if it's not a strong enough colour for your liking add another tiny blob but again mix with it with a small amount of conditioner first.

Not sure about covering the brown I'm afraid; I imagine it probably won't but I can't swear to it.

If you want a similar shade to Directions Lavender, you will probably need less than a pea sized blob of Deep Purple lol it is super concentrated. I mix it exactly like TabithaBlue has described, then let it sit for about half an hour and give it another good mix. The waiting helps the dye to dissolve in the conditioner.
If you want a darker purple to cover the brown you will have to make a stronger mix. Deep Purple is almost black when applied neat so it will cover any base, but a pale pastel won't show up on brown hair

Thanks ladies I'm so glad I asked otherwise I would have put in a table spoon 😳
So if it won't cover the brown I can just slap it on all over then ?

Ok so I used less than a pea amount and did like you said nothing happened except the grey ends went more of a blue so I did again but used over a pea size amount of deep purple and the have a hint of purple but mostly dark grey and blue? What next ?

How pale was the mixture when you applied it? It probably needs more than a peasized amount. It can depend how much conditioner you're using.

The second time it was a good purple colour , so do u recon just make the mixture using more purple? I've ran out of conditioner now so will have to wait till mid week 😫

Or would Aussie 3 minute repair conditioner be OK to leave on for 4 hours ? If that's ok I can do it tonight 👍🏻

Some people say not to use a conditioner with silicone. I don't agree, I've found it fine.

However, it could be a potential reason things aren't taking well on your hair. Do you use it often and do you clarify wash your hair before dying?

Also, please can you stop double posting 🙂 I have to keep editing and merging your posts when you do it! 😉

What you just did is double posting. It's explained in the rules http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=2.0

It's posting and then posting again right after when no one else has posted. When you want to add something to your previous thought, look at your last post and click "modify" at the top. This means you can edit and add what you want to say.

If you're using an SLS free shampoo and also using Aussie a lot, then that's very probably your problem (or one of them). Aussie has silicones. You need a clarifying shampoo before you dye to remove the silicone as it makes a barrier to the dye. It won't stick, and if it does, it's superficial and will wash out immediately. Which is what is happening?

No, you need a shampoo that has SLS, but even better, a specific clarifying shampoo. This is just one wash before you dye. You just need to get rid of the silicones before dying.
