Hello,
i am new to coloring my hair at home, i have a friend helping me that knows and introduced me to Wella Koleston and she's recommending 10/8 to take my level 6-7 grow out to a level 9 beige/ash blonde.
My quandry is developer. Was reading on KillerStrands blog about developer that should be used to cover grey is the 20% (i think i'm at least 25% grey and under 50%) but if i want the LIFT that many levels, then 40% developer is needed and don't be afraid of it.
Honestly, i want the grey covered but i especially want the lift to as many levels as i can get with it, anyone really knowledgeable about Koleston and developer strength for lifting levels and grey? THANKS!
This is the information on mixing from the Koleston website
Combine with Welloxon Perfect for outstanding, high-density results. Koleston Perfect Base & Welloxon Perfect (1:1). Special Blonde shades ratio (1:2).
MIXING RATIO:
3 levels of lift: 1 part Koleston Perfect, 1 part Welloxon Perfect 12%
2 levels of lift: 1 part Koleston Perfect, 1 part Welloxon Perfect 9%
1 level of lift/Coverage of gray/white same depth or darker: 1 part Koleston Perfect, 1 part Welloxon Perfect 6%
Special Blonde: 1 part Koleston Perfect, 2 parts Welloxon Perfect 9% or 12%
I don't have experience of using the blonde shades though so can't speak from any personal experience, sorry.
40% is way too harsh. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Mosty salons, brands, etc. recommend it as it will get you lighter but what they dont say is how much damage it causes the hair. If you are doing it at home, then it is even more problematic as if it gets on your scalp, it can cause bad chemical burns to your skin.
30% is the highest anyone should ever use in my opinion.
Yeah like I say I don't have personal experience of blondes either but I wouldn't use 40 vol either, certainly not near my scalp.
