What am I supposed to do after a dye application? just rinse it out? wash? co-wash? seriously haven't got a clue! Maybe just rinse to keep the vibrancy of colour?? thanks!!

I think it's upto you really. I always wash mine out with a little shampoo because my hair really soaks up the dye and turns out too dark for my liking when freshly dyed. Also just rinsing it out makes my hair look really greasy.

I just use water, then add a little conditioner and rinse that out with cold water. If your scalp is particularly stained or you didn't dilute the dye at all, a quick shampoo will help prevent rub off/bleeding of the colour.

Depends if it's diluted or not. When I apply the dye right out of the pot, I shampoo (I don't co wash at all, so if you do, conditioner will probs be better) my hair to get the staining off my scalp and ears and such. If I don't, I end up with itchy scalp. But I recently dyed with a very diluted dye and I just rinsed. The water didn't show any colour after the conditioner/dye mix was out of my hair anyway.

Wow! so your hair "ate" all the dye so to speak?

I'll dilute a bit I guess. I'll let you know.

Thanks everyone!!!

Well, it was half a teaspoon of dye in a bowl of conditioner, so very diluted. I've diluted directions plum a bit, since it'll turn almost black applied neat, and I did have to shampoo to remove staining of the skin. But that's a highly pigmented dye and even diluted 50/50 comes out the dark side of purple. So it also depends on the dye, I think.

I start with a huge dollop of conditioner, lather it through, rinse, then really really lather up with my usual shampoo, scrub round my ears/neck/forehead to get it all off the skin, then rinse thoroughly.
I have been known to finish with a cold rinse but didn't bother this time.

I should add I only do this to my undercut, my long on-top hair doesn't get this abuse  πŸ˜‰

I usually just rinse it through and then condition.  Adore shades I'll shampoo, though--the dye gives my hair a weird texture if I don't.

I give mine a damn good rinse, then one shampoo, then conditioner and another rinse. I really like to get a lather up with the shampoo, I only tend to wash my hair once a week (dry shampoo in between) and when I do i don't go nuts with the shampooing, just to try to prolong the colour a little more. So this is one shampoo session where I can really scrub the hell out of my hair and feel lovely and fresh and clean after!
