Weird fading? Help!

I have a patch of hair (a stripe perpendicular to the hair shaft, maybe an inch wide, about half an inch away from my scalp) which is appearing to take dye fine but then starts to fade very noticeably within a couple of washes. The rest of my hair, both the roots and lengths, is fine and fading at what is a normal rate for my hair.

I don't think it's damage as it's only been bleach bathed once (using a 30vol mixture, 1 part bleach + developer mix to 2 parts shampoo) with coconut oil used before and only left on for about 20 minutes at most. As I was going pink I only lightened the minimum amount I needed, going from dark blonde to a golden yellow blonde. It feels fine, it's smooth and strong, even after multiple clarifying washes with no conditioning. I've trashed my hair to the point where it won't take dye in the past but it was very obvious then that it was over bleached.

The colour (Manic Panic Hot Hot Pink) went on fine, rinsed out fine and everything seemed normal. After the first wash there was a very small bit at the front that was looking a tiny bit peachy. After the next wash I had a definite peach stripe. I was going away so did an emergency re-dye with a purple mix (roughly half and half MP Purple Haze + MP Ultra Violet) and it's done exactly the same. All looked fine immediately after doing it but a few days later and there's a decidedly faded stripe appearing.

It looks dreadful and I'm completely stumped as to where I go from here. Has anyone had this happen? Any suggestions as to things I can try? I've been so careful to keep all risks with my hair to a minimum as I'm trying to grow it and I'll be beyond gutted if I have to buzz it all off again  πŸ™

It sounds like you might have a band which wasn't lightened as much as the rest of your hair, Did it look even before you added the dye? If it was slightly darker you need to spot bleach (bath) just the darker part.

It all looked nice and even before the dye went on.

OH does my hair for me and we've had a few incidents of spots not lightening as much but even then the colour has taken and lasted fine, it's just been a bit darker than the rest.

There are strands in the faded area that are almost completely back to being yellow, it certainly looks light enough for a strong pink to have taken just fine.

I'm going to wash it soon so once it's dry I'll try and get a picture of it.

thats weird, perhaps do a round of keratin reconstructor for an hour (k pak or aphogee 2 minute not 2 step) then clarify with shampoo to ensure nothings blocking the dye and then leave the pink/other colour on overnight and see how it goes? it could have lifted funnily and somehow become more damaged or maybe you started around that area so the bleach was left on longest there? if it keeps happening try a different semi brand to rule out manic panic

Do you always place shampoo in the same spot on your head? We've had other members with similar odd fade patterns and it turned out that the would start shampooing at the same spot each time, which made that area fade more quickly than the rest of their head.

Or do you sleep on that side of your head? I've seen strangely faded hair from sleeping habits too: the side you sleep on fades the fastest, and even faster when you move a lot in your sleep.

I find that sleep also affects my OH's hair color. He sweats a lot so whichever side he sleeps on, some color leaches out.

The shampoo thing is a possibility, I always slap it on right on top of my head which is where the worst of the fading is.

It's not sleeping on it, I've had that problem before and I now have a side cut and sleep almost exclusively on the short side  ;D

I'm actually starting to wonder if it's a dye issue. I've washed it today and I've noticed that in places the purple is fading completely revealing the blue underneath.

I'm confident it's not damage so I'll try shampooing from the bottom up and if that doesn't help I think it might be time to try another brand again.
