Hey everyone.
I'm working on dying my hair purple with an eventual goal of a pastel lilac or lavender.
My natural color is a medium reddish-brown. I had a professional ombre done in June that had my natural color grown out quite a bit. I did a two low grade bleach washes using 20 vol developer then a stronger bleach wash with 30 vol developer. All were left in for a max of 20 minutes, was too afraid to leave them in much longer. However, this meant my previously bleached ends processed really fast, my roots processed really fast, and my mid shaft only got to a brassy orange. I toned with a light ash blonde and then got impatient and went for the purple. I did a 50/50 mixture of Manic Panic Purple Haze and Ultra Violet (half a teaspoon of each) diluted in conditioner. This ended up being more of a second toner and took my roots and ends to a whiter blonde, but my mid shaft was still really dark. So I mixed up another conditioner dye. This time 2 teaspoons of Purple Haze and 2 teaspoons of Ultra Violet in the same amount of conditioner. I left this in for 30 minutes and ended up with the pictures below. The purple is nice, but a little too blue for me. (This has not been washed since dying) and I'm left with some really big silver/brown mid shaft spots.
I'm wondering, if I mix up another conditioner dye mix with 2 parts Purple Haze and 1 part Ultra violet, do you think this will cover the silver and add red to the currently purple parts? Or am I insane!? Lol
I would try adding a lot less conditioner, or even using the dyes neat to cover the uneven base
Should I apply it all over or try to spot dye? Will adding more dye over the current purple take it darker and still uneven?
Your current mix wasn't pigmented enough to cover, so go over it all with a stronger mix if you want it even
you can add a little pink to make it less blue.
Update. Did a diluted manic panic mix of mostly purple haze with a little bit of ultra violet and got this. I love but now I'm struggling to maintain the more magenta color rather than a darker blue/purple.
Try adding Hot hot Pink to the mix
