The Dye Mixing Thread

Mixing dyes is pretty popular here, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a 'recipe' thread of sorts. I mix a lot of mine and thought maybe it would useful to make a reference list.
I have taken pictures of some of my mixes and will endeavour to post them with the text when I can. Pastel rainbow mix coming soon :).

If you would like to post your favourite mixes, please do, we've had some really good custom shades around here. πŸ™‚

I achieved a glorious deep, dark navy blue my mixing a third of a bottle of SFX Blue Velvet and one tub of Directions Midnight Blue. Someone here called it "Wonder Woman hair" πŸ˜€

All of these are red mixes πŸ™‚

My first red was a dark pinky red, achieved by mixing 1 tub Directions Poppy, 1 tub Directions Tulip and approx 2/3 bottle Cherry Bomb.  It faded magenta and then back to the lavender that it was on top of.

I mixed half and half SFX Hot Lava and Candy Apple for a really nice deep red (no pictures of this one)

An eclectic mix of leftovers that ended up being 1 bottle Hot Lava, 1/3 bottle Cherry Bomb, 1/2 bottle Candy Apple and 1 tub MP Vampire Red.

And my current as well as favourite, a 50/50 mix of SFX Nuclear and Cherry Bomb.

i mixed directions tulip and cerise (1 tub of each) and it turned out a lovely pinky red. In some lights it looked red and in others very bright pink.

This thread contains the evidence: http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=5676.0

The first pic is 2:1 Directions Turquoise and Fluorescent Glow on top with 2:1 Sonic Green and Fishbowl on the bottom.

The Second is  3:1 Wildflower with Pimpin' Purple on the top and 3:1 Virgin Rose and Burgundy Wine on the bottom/back.

My current hair is too hard to describe mixing wise, it's mainly just a lot of colours bleeding.

I always mix, but I never measure my mixes! I just do it by eye because I don't want to perfectly replicate colors. And I don't want my colors to be perfectly replicated!

I always mix by eye as well! I find its easier to stick with a colour longer if it slightly changes everytime I top up πŸ™‚

1 tub of midnight blue + 1 tub of neon blue on a faded(ish) pink base (I'm lying it was still very pink.... See second pic for base colour)

The best way to describe the colour was Like the blue ink you get in bic biros

Edit: I have some Atlantic blue a bit of flamingo pink here, do u think I could make a purple? And what would it fade to?

I have always mixed my hair dyes too, never by measures either just by eye and what I think will work well.

Been pink for the last year and a bit and I never dyed it the same shade twice! I used a mix of all these dyes over that time: SFX - Atomic Pink, Directions - Cerise, Flamingo Pink, Carnation Pink & Rose Red and CC - Cyclamen & Pinkissimo.

I mix & match the makes too; doesn't bother me and never had any bad effects from doing so either  ;D

*I must add though it does make reproducing a particularly pretty shade difficult though  :-[

4:1 turquoise directions and ebony directions it's pretty cool! It came out a nice shade of blue/green (it depends on your base I think), like a dark teal πŸ˜€ I really like it because it's not too bright like most light blues or greens are :/
