Talk to me about black semi's?

I love having colourful hair, but I'm one of these people that get bored way, way, waaaay too easy. At the moment I'm feeling to go black again but not permanent as I'd like to have the choice to do pretty colours again as I'll eventually get bored of the black. I'll wait until my blue has completely faded before I do anything anyway, but what's the best semi black? What do they usually tend to fade to ect.

I have tried a few, manic panic raven went brown quite quickly. Its the only MP dye that didnt take well on my hair.
Directions ebony used to fade green but i believe they have now changed it to a red based dye.
Blue black by adore is probably my favorite as it fades blue and then grey on my hair. and adore jet black fades brown.

I used directions ebony and loved it, the new formula fades to a brown I believe, although some places still have the older ones in and they fade to greeny colour

Thank you. I like the sound of Adore blue black, so will check my local hair shop as they stock Adore & if not I'll get Ebony.  😀

Adore make several blacks, they are bound to have one that suits

Did anyone have any staining issues with blacks?

Directions ebony stained my hair green. That was the old formula though.

How would I achieve a blue black similar to this?
Would it just be the case of adding a blue into a black or getting a really dark blue & leaving it on for hours with also adding heat as I go along?

I think maybe something like a dark purple based blue with a colour like adore blue black added to darken it might work.

That doesn't look black to me, more a deer purpley blue. Diluting a blue black and adding some pink/purple should do it.

I wasn't sure whether it was more purple or blue, on my phone it looks like undiluted plum and on my computer it looked entirely blue 🙂

Do you think a diluted blue black with Adore African Violet & a touch of Directions Cerise would do?

I would mix adore blue black with sfx blue velvet. It looks quite similar to my bf's hair and he uses blue velvet.

That's the colour I currently have, I use a mix of sfx Blue Velvet and Directions Midnight Blue. It varies from almost black in dimmer light, to navy blue, to bright yet dark inky blue in sunlight. I apply it undiluted and leave it on for a few hours before rinsing it off. It also lasts ages, it's beautiful, took me lots of different combinations to find the exact colour I wanted. Be warned though that it comes with the downside of colour transferring to clothes and skin until a good couple of washes later, and I suspect I also have major cuticle staining though I haven't tried to remove it. And the shower water still runs blue even by the time I'm due for roots and touch up.
