I spotted some sulphate free shampoo in the shop the other day so I picked some up because it was on offer so I thought I'd see what it was like and I saw somewhere (not sure if it was here or anywhere else) that it stops your hair fading so much when you use semis but I'm very sure that more colour runs out in the shower than before?! Did I get my wires crossed or is it just a bad shampoo?
The only sulphate free shampoo i have used is loreal everpure, it did make my hair feel rather nice but im sure it leeched out as much colour as the sulphate shampoo i have used. Now im just sticking to co washing!!
I think in general a sulpate shampoo would strip less colour as the sulphate cant tell between dirt and colour so washes my pink away, maybe its just the case of finding a good one?
Hopefully there is someone here that knows more ;D
L'OrΓ©al everpure is the most "like a sls-shampoo". Meaning other sulphate free shampoos seem more gentle, IMO. Everpure is the only sls-free I found that foams like a normal shampoo, not sure why but it kinda makes me feel suspicious about it containing something it shouldn't...
Oh right, I think it was Leo Bancroft's one, it was in a purple bottle and I got the conditioner as well.
Yeah i got a bit sus about it, only used it the once. Im sure i have read on here about one called osmo that seems quite popular but never used it myself. Think im deffo sticking with co washing now, its so cheap!!!!
In my experience, sulphate-free definitely strips out less colour than sulphate or even low-sulphate shampoos. It also doesn't aggravate my scalp.
I've only tried three: Osmo, Happy Hair Days and Body Shoppe Rainforest Shine. I didn't rate the Body Shoppe one, Osmo is great, but I'm actually finding that Happy Hair Days seems to be even better than Osmo on my hair.
ah ok, have I maybe just bought a rubbish one? It does make my hair feel lovely just the water seems a bit redder than when I was using a regular shampoo haha
I use herbal essence shampoo which def has sulphates in it, but it's for dyed hair and it is the best I've found so far that has sulphates but doesn't take much dye out. It's the pink bottle with a rose on it. The conditioner does have silicones but it's a really light conditioner. They are my favorite at the moment. I have used them with atomic pink and splat purple hair dye.
Now im just sticking to co washing!!
How do you personally co-wash? Just damp your hair, put a conditioner on your hands and start smoothing it through your hair and just basically wash the hair?
I use morrisons own brand jojoba conditioner diluted with water for my scalp and root area, massage it in just like shampoo, rinse that then i use either fructis strength and shine or gumtree henna conditioner, apply that to the lengths and leave for 5 mins or so. Just make sure all your products and conditioners are silicone free as they can build up with no sulphates to wash them away.
Not sure if my method is the correct one but its the best thing i have ever done for my hair apart from stopping all heat and learning to embrace the wave lol!!
I meant to say, colour does still run out (especially with reds; reds never seem to stop running), but more of it seems to stay in my hair, if that makes sense.
If your hair starts fading quicker than you like, it might just be that that particular shampoo doesn't work for your hair. The Body Shoppe shampoo I used had similar results to low-sulphate shampoos, even though it was sulphate-free.
I like Everpure too.
Currently using Joico Colour Endure that I got for Β£11 at TK Maxx, quite liking that
I Bought some ever pure yesterday - haven't had a chance to use it yet. However my hair is red and I agree that no matter how many times I wash it dye ALWAYS comes out... and I generally end up with pink armpits, elbows and knees for the first few washes because I wash my hair in the shower ha ha but an exfoliator sorts that out π
SKB101--lol, I get a nice pink racing stripe down my spine for the same reason. It goes away soon enough, though!
