Ok firstly, thank you to those who helped me try to make a deep plum without using a perm color π I bought a few things and tested them out and I think *hope* this will work!!
I tried 4 mixes as follows:
-Pravana Violet with Ion semi black on the strand with NO tie (shampooed this because it was so dark!)
-Pravana Violet and Ion Titanium on the strand with WHITE hair tie
-Pravana Violet, Pravana Red, a little Manic Panic Enchanted Forest (teal) on the BLUE tie
-Pravana Violet, Pravana Green and a drop of Pravana Orange (don't think it mattered) on the PINK tie (shampooed this as well)
So in the first image, it's the Black/purple, then the Green/Purple, then the Teal/Red/Purple, then the Grey/Purple last. In this one, the last two look alike.
The Green purple came out like NAVY purple so I took that out. For the second pic it's black purple, then grey purple then the red/teal one. They look SO dark here in the sun but I wanted to show the green lean of the last one here, even though in the first pic it wasn't as green.
But I also added an indoor picture because while they are dark, sometimes the camera can't capture the underlying color. I apologize that in the indoor pic, the last two strands are reversed so it goes black purple, red/teal/purple, grey purple. Here they all look really similar, and lighter than they really are, but just to show how they look in different lighting.
So...I'm leaning away from the greens, even though it darkens the purple, it makes it so blue. I am feeling the black more. I feel it really makes it rich. Especially because I heard the Ion semi rinses fade so fast, it probably won't stay too dark for too long, so I'm more ok with going darker and letting it fade. I also sort of like the grey, maybe because I'm not a fan of Ion Bright so much so it just sort of dilutes it lol. I might just do a little black, a little grey and violet. That could be cool.
Unfortunately, the goal of the "blue hair tie" strand was to try and get a redder plum but the teal might have ruined that for me... I added it because I didn't want just a pink with red and purple, so I was trying to neutralize a little. Essentially though I'm not sure if I want just a deep plum violet or a hint of red to it as well, like a deep burgundy. I could strand test both too but it's going to look so funny with all these dark strands lol. What do you guys think?
Update: I just strand tested Violet, Red, Grey and Black lol. Less black than I'd use full on, so I can actually see the color. It's pretty but too vivid...DEF needs more black in it, but the burgundy tint is nice too.
In the very bottom one, the middle strand looks like it has an ever-so-slight red tone, which is what I personally think of as plum having.
For now, I'm torn between the no-tie strand and the white-tie one, but I like them all
It totally has a red tint. That's the one I added red to. I tried a combo of red, black, purple and grey, but it was too bright and I couldn't get a good picture. When I do it, I'll probably do something like that. I never quite get it right to the strand tests or to my idea, but it's still helpful to see how the mixes come out ahead of time. π I wish I'd be able to tell them apart after washing, but I probably won't be able to.
I like the middle on the most.
Middle one is my favourite one hundred percent x
