Something purplish over unbleached base?

Hi everyone πŸ™‚
I'm back after.. I don't know, a few years? lol
I was blue back then, and then my boss forced me to get rid of the bright colour and I had to overdye it with black.
Now I finished that job and want to go back to colour πŸ™‚ But not that bright this time.
From co-washing and natural soaps my hair is in such a good condition that I don't want to hurt it by bleaching.
My base is: natural dark blonde on top (a cool shade tho), very old black dye that faded to a warm middle/dark brown in the tips.

- Would a Colour remover work on the black? It's at least a year old and it was Wella Colour Touch

- I would like some purple shade, not quite sure which. Something like the purple box dyes are when they're frest.
I might want to use it only once and then let it fade back to natural.
I still have a tub of Special Effects blue, and Atomic pink (bought when the SFX drought was, when it arrived I was black already), and some rests of different Directions dyes to mix (Midnight Blue, Ebony, Pillarbox Red, Violet). They've all been stored in a dark place so should be still fine, right?
Could I mix something from those?

What colours can I even hope to achieve over an unbleached base?

I've got Directions Violet and Directions Alpine Green on a couple of strands of mine over a mid brown box dye and they both show up pretty well and last ages, they don't stay long on my virgin roots though.

Thank you.
I did a test strand and it wasn't visible on the darker tips, and only a little on the virgin parts.
Guess I'd have to bleach... I don't know...

It's worth trying a colour remover. It's better than bleaching straight away. If it works then you'll be set and with no damage. Bleaching is always a last resort.

I agree, colour remover is worth a try before you attempt anything else.

Thanks, I just did that.
Even warmed it up under a shower cap cause it says to keep warm.
But it didn't really do much. The ends look a tiny little bit less black. I'm gonna do another strand test, but I don't think it could make a difference.

A second colour remover today made my ends a lot less black, they even showed some warmer tones, almost gingery.
Then I wanted to try my luck with dyeing. I skipped the ColourB4 conditioner and did a Natron wash instead and put a mix of Directions Poppy Red, Midnight Blue and Violett, + about 1/3 of conditioner all over. I capped it and waited around 3 hours before washing out.
Weirdly enough, my virgin roots took it well and are now a dark purple, while the ends took absolutely nothing of the dye. The roots are even a darker shade than the ends now. It doesn't look that bad, but clearly weird.
I'm totally confused, I thought the ends would take better as they've been processed before. Any clues why this could have happened?
