Semi-permanent over permanent?

Hello  πŸ™‚

Can you use a semi-permanent eg SFX straight after using a permanent dye?

I have dyed my roots today with Garnier Nutrisse permanent dark blonde colour and it has taken the orange out of my previously napalm orange hair and left it yellowy  :'(  Can I re-dye it with orange tomorrow or do I have to wait a while?  I know you can with bleach, but I don't want to mess up my hair!

Thank you!

Hello, these semi perms should be fine to use on top of a permanent dye but if you are in doubt try a strand test first to check the results (you are best trying one anyway to make sure the blonde is light enough to give the orange result you are hoping for).

Just remember not to use a semi perm on recently conditioned hair as conditioner can act as a barrier and stop the dye from sticking to the hair (thought I would mention that as many permanent dyes have a conditioner you use after dyeing).

Hi Nickki and Pierat,

What about if I use a permanent dye, wash it out but don't use the conditioner - could we put SFX on straight away then?  Saves doing it twice.  Thanks!

I don't know to be honest, but permanent dyes always leave my hair feeling a bit dry so I find it better to condition it and let it dry and then wash it again!
