Semi permanent hair dye in pregnancy

Someone had told me that I shouldn't dye my hair purple (my normal colour) while I'm pregnant. I usually get fashion foil bleached sections in the hair dresser once a year then use special effects on my whole head and it's a dark purple over my natural brown, then bright purple on the bleached bits (and the greys that I don't like to talk about).

Is there any reason not to use special effects while pregnant? I have to admit I had IVF and used it during my IVF treatment! Has anyone else dyed while pregnant? What brand?

Nah, it's fine.

Probably a good idea to avoid bleaches and permanent box dyes, or anything that requires mixing with peroxide, while pregnant but direct dyes like special effects are ok.

Speaking as someone who's had purple and blue hair during pregnancy  πŸ˜‰  but not a medical professional or chemist.

Hi,

We  get asked this question a lot and as kitebunny says above, it should be fine to use semi-permanent hair dyes.

One thing I will add is ALWAYS do a sensitivity test first even if you don't normally do one - this applies to all cosmetic and beauty items.  During pregnancy with all the increased hormones and body changes you can become more sensitive to products and ingredients, even ones that you have used before with no problems.

The following section from the NHS website may hep further Using Hair Dye When Pregnant
