Hi, so I let my highlights grow out for a while as the grey and highlights looked much the same, OLD :'( The hairdresser wouldn't do anything for me but a full head so I got that done 3 days ago. It looked the same grey with a few ginger bits, some original brown underneath and at the back. She's been doing my hair for 4 years and only one issue before, ( I never complain). I didn't do the silver shampoo, I went out and bought Crazy Red Vermillion. Dyed it yesterday, It's super red and so far....I like it 8) A few questions though.....probably not the right ones!
1) Can I top up the colour whenever and will I need to do something when the grey hair regrows?
2) Can I change the colour with shop bought semi permanent (to cover grey) ie. to a more natural red?
3) Is the hairdresser right, or should I seek out a new one?
The colour will fade faster from hair that hasn't been bleached or dyed with a permanent dye. Direct dyes need a rough surface to stick to and the cuticle slightly lifted so some can go under. This is what the highlights will have done. But, if you've got it to stick to the grey hair at all, that's good news. You're luckier than most! Yes, you can top it up as often as you like. It's not damaging at all.
To change the colour, you'll have to let it fade first. You can't just put another colour over the top and expect it to change. Dyes are basically translucent and they'll always show the colour underneath. If the colour underneath is darker than the colour you put on, it won't show. But you'll only need to fade it until it's lighter than the colour you want to put on if it's in the ame colour range, like an unnatural red to a natural red.
I'm not sure what you're asking about the hairdresser. You only said they would only do a full head of highlights but not why and what you'd actually asked for.
Thank you *cheers* It's just got me thinking if I should let it fade out and cover with a permanent natural(ish) red or, figure out how to bleach and semi colour on a regular basis. I like it at the moment, even the few grey strands π My hairdresser thinks colouring on a regular basis is a no no because I'm too grey, but at over 100e a time on a full head that I don't like, somethings got to go π I guess she worried me when she said I was the third she'd done that morning. I quite like hats π Thanks again.
Hi, still thinking.....can I permanent colour my hair all over to cover the grey and put the Crazy Vermillion Red semi over the top? Bleaching might leave me having to get it cut shorter. The grey roots are going to show quick and I can envisage me colouring the roots with the permanent often..... so....if it's ok to do this, is there anything I should be aware of like a time I should leave it between colourings? Any suggestions on the colour of the permanent? (Highlights and grey hair with a bit of brown underneath with Crazy V Red all over, making me super red at mo) *anyone*
