Semi dye with less transfer?

I went black a month or two ago but I can feel the need to go back to brigth colours again.
The thing is, I've always used Directions but I refuse to use them anymore due to bad experiences with it.

I was thinking, which dye is better in terms of rub off / transfer? I've heard SFX and Adore are the best, but also that SFX is a lot worse with rub off lately. So I just wanted to ask.

I'm thinking of trying purple again, either that or a red. But I don't want anything blue or green near my hair ever again (well, at least for now), so please nothing that could go green on yellow hair xD.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What were the bad experiences with directions? I ask because it may affect what others would be good for you. I'm assuming it was staining and rub off from your comments.

Ways to combat rub off...

Dilute the dye a little with conditioner. Not enough to dilute the colour though. This will also reduce likelihood of staining.

Use a vinegar rinse.

I did both and nothing worked. The rub off was crazy. Also the change in formula/or bad batch, which I don't know finally if it was a permanent change or just a batch that came out that way, made my plum go blue and I'm scared to try it again, hence why I'm not willing to buy Directions.

I heard Adore has minimum to no rub off, but I want to know from people who use it, because I need to order online and I would like some input :3

Also, I'm looking for a pink based purple. Nothing that could go too blue.

In my experience with reds, Adore had practically no rub off and lasted about the same length of time as Directions on my hair.

SFX does have a bit more rub off, but it's not terrible and tends to stop after the first 2-3 washes.  I do prefer SFX because it lasts nearly twice as long in my hair as Adore, which personally matters more to me than rub off.

Adore Purple Rage lasted ages in my hair, and I had absolutely zero rub off and very little bleed in the shower.

There's one problem though with suggesting a brand that doesn't rub off. It's different for everyone. I've never once had rub off with Directions and I've used almost all the colours now. SFX, I've had awful rub off from Virgin Rose, but nothing else.

I've used adores, aquamarine, purple rage, violet gem and rich fuchsia and had hardly any rub off from any of them. Directions was a nightmare for me, the stuff got everywhere!

I'm the same as Janineb, I've not used all colours, but from the directions dyes I've used, none of them had terrible rub-off, not even plum (granted it was diluted 50/50), but the dyes straight from the pot (turq, mandarin, bright daffodil, turq mixed with fluo glow, alpine) never gave me trouble.

I've had some rub off from stargazer dyes, especially the dark blue colours.

I guess you are right, that everyone's hair is different.

I decided I want a pink based red, rather than an orange one. Which dyes would you suggest I use? I've seen people say Devilish by SFX is pinkish but in the gallery it just looks red. Maybe Cherry Bomb?

Cherry Bomb is a neon red that's pink based.  Devilish is pink based, too, and another bright shade.  Candy Apple is pink based, more of a medium tone, though.  Blood Red is also pink, but darker toned.

Nuclear and Hot Lava are the only orange based reds in the SFX range.

All reds in the Adore range are pink based apart from Truly Red, which is super-orange.

Sometimes pictures won't help me decide xD I'll go with devilish, it's less neon than cherry bomb but still it's pinker than anything else. When it fades I can add pink on top to create a reddish pink or something.

Well thanks for all your help! If / when I get all of this done, I'll write a post about it :3
