Root glow

Evening all,

How can I avoid it?  I am about to go from pink to red which is easy enough but my roots are really dark brown/grey so I'll need to bleach before I put on the new colour but I don't want my roots to be a completely different colour to the rest.  Would it be better to do my hair with a box red first then just go over it with the SFX colour to make it a brighter/better/longer lasting red or is there another way to get a better even vibrant red result?

A xXx

Hi There, if you are worried about a really strong root glow from bleach, it might be better you try using a 7.0 medium blonde ammonia based colourant on just these roots.  On a brunette base a 7.0 colour will lift by a couple of levels and expose a reddy brown as opposed to a blonde ginger.  When you apply a bright red you will then be less likely to get a root glow as you will still have a lot of dark depth near those roots.  Just remember to only apply the colour with a tint bowl and brush to just the regrowth.
