Red or orange over minty/blue-ish shade?

So I did my hair and was left with this shade for my blue side :

I ordered some orange and red dyes. Would it go muddy? I did cover similar shades with pink and got lovely purples, but I have never used red or orange semis before. Unsure of how they will react.

I know I can do a strand test, but maybe people here have experience with reds or oranges over a light blue shade like this. πŸ™‚

Thanks!

I've put special effects napalm orange over much more saturated blue than that and been fine, so I think you should be ok. Your blue is pretty subtle.

Napalm is super pigmented, so yeah, that would be fine. Anything very pigmented will be fine. Anything lighter/less pigmented would probably go a bit muddy though, or at least darker. What have you ordered?

I don't think the dyes I ordered are as pigmented as SFX tends to be. I ordered CC canary yellow (will probably put it on a layer to make a greeny colour), directions fire, manic panic electric tiger lily (manic panic washes out like crazy on me, but I'm not sure if I even want these colours for a long time, so I still bought it) and stargazer dawn.

The oranges aren't very strong from the pictures I have found, I think I'll do a strand test with the orange.

Would the directions fire be potent enough for the blue? It seems a pink based red to me, but I could be wrong. Worst that could happen is it turning purply, right?

Thanks for your replies! <3

Ah sorry, I thought that light enough that a weaker orange/ red would still cover.

I used electric tiger lily once and was really unimpressed by how unsaturated the colour was on my hair. So I'm not sure that would cover it. I haven't used fire so I don't know about that.

Fire is an orange based red

Aww, really @ electric tiger lily. Oh well, I'll strand test and otherwise put it over the pink side. The pink wedge of my hair is really pastel right now, so it should at least be salmon if I slap orange over it. Which is fine by me.

Thanks for saying fire is orange based! Does this change anything? Do I have to strand test that as well?

I don't mind darker shades of red or orange. I just don't want mud, haha.

It is more likely to go a dark blood red over blue, than a purple

Thanks, it did go a darker red. I did strand tests first and was very disappointed with electric tiger lily. I can throw that away then, meh. The red and other orange looked okay enough so I dyed the top half of my head with stargazer dawn and the bottom part with directions fire. It looks lovely! I'll have to see how it fades of course, but this initial outcome is very pretty. I haven't been red/orange in years. Have to get used to it again!
