Hello! So I have recently started dying my hair red. The first time I dyed it, I used Vidal Sassoon Runway Red (permanent and RR6) and I really enjoyed the color. At first, it was a bit too vibrant for my liking, but after a week weeks, it started fading nicely. Although I admit i was sad that my hair was fading (I was prepared for it because I knew reds faded quicker than more natural colors), I still really enjoyed all the stages my hair faded into.
(I have included pictures..(I hope) The first one (hopefully) that has four pictures collaged starts with my natural hair, the dye after the first day, a couple weeks later, then months later (I don't have exact time frames).
I wanted to dye it back the same color but my mother didn't want me to use dye boxes from Walmart, so I went to Sally's Beauty Supply hoping to find something similar. I found a semi-permanent Ion Brilliance Red dye (which a friend recommended) and tried it. Granted, I left it on about fifteen minutes longer than the directions recommended, but after I rinsed, I realized that the dye had a pinky tone to it. It's actually taken longer for this dye to fade than Vidal, but I'm not as happy with the tones.
(I have attached another collage of the progression of the fade...sadly I do not have any pictures of it when it was first dyed. I was kind of horrified for a few weeks).
I was wondering if there are any recommendations for reds from Sally's Beauty that have more of an orange/coppery tone than pink? Or just a good red in general? I'm not really picky with reds unless they have too strong of a pink hue in them. I'm really tempted to go back to Vidal Sassoon, but I think my mom would have a stroke, so I figured out I'd research other options. ๐ฎ
Thank you so much for the help!
I don't know as thing about combating colour mishaps.....but I think its really pretty
Pravana red is very neutral red to start and faded slightly orange for me. Not sure if you get pravana in sallys over there as I live in the uk. If you want a true red rather than pink/orange then you can mix a pink based red with an orange based red to make a true red.
I haven't used reds in a while so hopefully someone else can give you advice on the different brands. Sfx does both pink and orange based but I am not sure which one's which.
I used Splat! Red. it's neither a pink or orange base. It also doesn't really fade, though after 1-2months it looks a bit duller. The color runs though, whenever your hair gets wet, even in the rain.
Also, it's not available at Sally's, but Walmart or Fred Meyer has it.
I found Adore Paprika good to mix into truer reds to give a more coppery, less bright edge to them, it's something like the 3rd pic in the vidal sassoon one you posted in its fade on me. Any orangey reds I used were really bright when I first used them so I'm not sure how vibrant you want it to be, I found a lot of deeper reds had a pinky or purpley undertone.
