Purple advice

So as the title suggests I'm looking for some advice on what purple dye to use, I've been dyeing my hair using directions plum for about a year now but I'm really unhappy with the changes to it and how it fades - two weeks after a fresh dye and its turning my hair blue in some parts and there is also some green in the back which you can't see in the attached pictures.

I've been looking at mixing dyes from directions to achieve a colour similar to the original directions plum or a cadburys purple but since they changed plum I'm hesitant to use their other colours, other than that I'm leaning towards either Adore Purple rage/African violet or maybe a mix of the two - would these two colours cover the awful fade of directions plum? Does anyone have any advice or experience with Adore?

If anyone has any other suggestions for purple dyes I'd grateful, I've been in denial about directions plum changing and putting off finding a replacement for ages but my hair is turning blue/green 2 weeks after a fresh dye and I'm fed up.

If you want a purple that fades pink, why not star with a pink base and add blue until you find the color you like? I dont think it would be as dark as plum but it will get a better fade.
You could possibly try to add small amounts of adore blue black as the blue to make it darker.

I also think using a purple bases pink like directions rose red over this would give you a lovely pink based purple that would fade pink. Also I know it doesn't help as it's not what you want but I think your fade looks really nice.

I now use Special Effects Deep Purple in place of Directions Plum. It is even more strongly pigmented, so needs even more diluting than Plum, and it has great staying power and fades pink just like Plum used to.
Putting rose red or cerise over what you have now will bring it back to purple.

I was thinking about that but I'm worried it would be too pink. If i couldn't find a single dye to replace the plum, i was considering mixing directions cerise and Atlantic blue in tub to tryget a decent purple do you think that would work? sorry if that is a silly question but I've never mixed dyes before.

I did think about putting a pink dye over the top to try and get it back to purple but I was worried about how well it would cover the purple/blue/green thing that I have going on right now - I was seriously tempted to buy some directions dark tulip, put it on a see how it worked out. I think I'm going to have to try a few things out and see what gives me the best result, thanks for the suggestion and the compliment all I've been thinking is how bad it looks!

I just looked up some images of Special Effects Deep Purple it looks amazing! Does it have to be diluted or will it go to an almost black colour if not? I never diluted plum because it turned into a bright plum after about two washes even when leaving it on over night.

I have only used it very diluted (pastels) but it is super strong, and will come out blackish if used neat. I have waist length hair and I only need about a pea sized amount diluted in conditioner to do my whole head lilac wheras I would have needed about a teaspoonful of old formula plum.

I've used SFX Deep Purple mixed 50/50 with SFX Wild Flower to get a cadbury's purple.  I used the mixture neat, but the Wild Flower takes it sufficiently lighter to avoid the so-dark-it's-almost-black phase of using Deep Purple neat.  Unfortunately, Wild Flower is currently out of stock at beeunique (not sure about deep purple), but you might be able to find a directions substitute for the wild flower, or one from Adore.  Wild Flower is a fairly light/bright blue-based purple. This was just after dyeing (still wet so it looks darker than it was when dried), and the 2nd photo is after about 3-4 weeks.

thanks Marthakins!  It's just a shame that SFX wild flower is currently out of stock, it is one of my favourite purples!
EDIT - actually, have just checked, and it's not out of stock anymore!!  Both Wild Flower & Deep Purple are currently in stock on Beeunique! Yay!

Thats good news, I was worried I'd have to buy four bottles! I usually leave directions dyes on overnight will this still be necessary with SFX or will just a few hours be okay to get a rich colour?

Thats such a nice colour, it looks lovely! I just ordered SFX Deep Purple from Beeunique I was thinking of ordering SFX Atomic Pink to mix with it since my base is so very blue/green however its out of stock. For now I will use Deep Purple alone and if I'm not happy with the results I'll either try adding Wild flower or a pink dye. Thanks for the advice and the pictures, it really helps to see the colours on someone else.

I think diluted Deep Purple will be pink enough to counteract any green tones.

It is, I used Deep Purple on bright green hair (5 weeks new Directions Plum fade) and it covered all really well.

Hey guys, just wanted to update you all and thank you for the advice. I ended up with a nice colour the roots and top are bit pinker than the rest and some parts on the bottom are still a little blue but its trial and error since i'm new to mixing dye with conditioner and I can sort it out when i dye it next anyway.
