Poppy red over a slightly uneven base.

I've been toying with going red for a while and decided to go for it today.
I'd already Decoloured last week as I was either going a dark dirty blonde or bright again, and that had taken me to a dark ginger/auburn colour with about 2cms virgin roots of brown and grey (!), I've bleach bathed today and despite me leaving the roots until the last 5mins, they are still more dark yellow than bright orange.

1st question - Will Poppy cover this ok?

2nd question - If it isn't very forgiving, can I mix it with a brown semi and use that on the roots?

I know in a salon situation I'd add  base colour + desired shade to the roots to avoid root glow, would imagine it would be the same with semis but would rather check before going in all guns blazing.

Edit: well it covered really well. It's nice and bright.  Will have to try and get a photo in natural light as the pics I took tonight make it look orangey red and it's definitely more pink based.

Edit (again) : I'd really like something a bit deeper - I love Cupcake DeVil's end colour here http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=11252.0

It's pretty much perfect. I can't get hold of SFX yet and would really like it done for the weekend as we're away - this limits me to Directions dye. Any ideas what I could mix up with Dirextions to achieve this?

That looks really pretty!  I was going to say, I've never had a red give bad coverage yet.

I would try Adore's Intense Red to achieve a similar shade to her last photo in that thread, or Wild Cherry.

Thanks. πŸ™‚

It's a bit too pink and light for me in real life.
I've got some Adore Paprika, Directions Vermillion and Rubine - I'm thinking the orange would balance it and the Rubine add depth,  do you (or anyone else) think this would work? Or advise a better way.

I can order some Adore after the weekend, this is just to get it right for the weekend.

Edit: Put Paprika over it and it's a lovely jewel red. I love it. Will add a pic tomorrow.  πŸ™‚

When my red was a little pink for me after using cc cyclamen, then directions rubine (stupidly both pink reds) I just used directions vermillion to balance it out and it came out a nice red, not orange, but just red, I attached a picture to show how it came out.

That's a lovely colour, thanks for posting. Pretty much what I'm after. The Paprika has toned the pink but it seems a tad dark at the moment, nothing a couple of washes won't sort.
I've got some Vermillion arriving today so that will do to refresh it next week.
Here's it's current colour, a tad more 'normal' than I'd like it should brighten up.
