Hello! I'm Kipper. Im quite new to this forum, but I'm just trying to get some help and fast! Recently, ive given my hair a break so I can redye. It's a light blonde but not a platinum. Some of my roots are lighter or darker. Now the time has come. So today, I tried to dye my hair Steel Blue by Manic Panic. I followed the instructions and combed the dye through my hair, messing it all up. Now my hair is still blonde but only my tips are silver! So now I'm wondering.. Should I try to redye, leave it in longer and not comb it? Or should I dye over it with Ion Brights Titanium mixed with conditioner? I'm just trying to achieve a silver color!
Were the parts that have gone silver lighter in colour to begin with than the rest of your hair? Was your hair freshly washed, without using conditioner or any styling products? It may help to try to post a photo of your base colour so we can assess it a bit better.
My tips weren't as light as the rest of my hair, maybe just a little bit because I recently (2 days ago) bleached my hair again, right above my roots. I don't bleach completely to my roots and I tried to avoid getting any more bleach on anything above my roots. Do I need to bleach again? I don't think I can wait a week to bleach again because I have to leave for vacation this weekend!
I believe I started with a golden blonde on my roots. The pic I want to upload of the rest of my hair won't upload.
I can't really tell from that photo but it looks as though the bits where the silver hasn't taken are a bit more golden? Silver needs a really light base.
It's really not a good idea to bleach twice within a couple of days, you risk damaging your hair (especially if your vacation is to somewhere with a lot of sun!), could you not maybe cool down the tone of the lengths with some purple shampoo (it won't lighten it but it will cut down on brassiness ) and have a sort of blonde/ silver ombre?
If the rest of your hair isn't darker and it's just the way the photo is making it look then maybe wash it with some clarifying shampoo and apply a direct dye again? Make sure you are putting enough of the dye on to fully coat the hair.
I tried once again just to be sure and you're right, my hair isn't light enough. This time I came out with a bit of a dark blue/grey. I was wondering if it's too soon to dye it a third time with a much darker color, Manic Panic Voodoo blue? I just want all my hair to be colored, but the blonde is way too dark for the rest of the silver to pick up. I shampooed it and dried it, it seems to still be pretty strong. Do you think its safe to dye it again? I'm really trying hard to get it to look right before my trip lol. I know Manic Panic isn't that strong on hair, either.
If you are only using direct dye and conditioner, you should be fine to apply again, but it might not be the right step, did you try using purple shampoo to tone some of the yellow out, I do this as almost a hair mask every few weeks to keep my platinum bright. I make a mix with purple shampoo and coconut oil and apply to dry hair for about 45 minutes and it works great for me. I don't have an exact mixture for it, I just add a little coconut oil because shimmer lights can be drying on my hair.
The only reason I say use the purple shampoo because from what I can see in that earlier picture you have more yellow than orange, and to combat the yellow you have to put in purple, not blue. Can you post a picture of your hair now?
Ah I wish I could drive out and go get some purple shampoo. Sadly, I can't. I live an hour away from my closest Sally or Ulta beauty supply.
ok I guess my next question is what do you have at home to use? I tried to look up some diy toners but they all require having purple dye already and the one I saw using food coloring does not look safe at all!! lol !!
It's a mess. All I have at my house is some conditioner and shampoo. I do have a light blue, an orange and a dark blue hair dye. That's all I have with me.
Direct dyes aren't damaging so you're fine to redye it with something like Manic Panic, Directions etc (basically anything you don't use peroxide with or mix two parts together is fine to use). You could try mixing some blue with some conditioner and do some strand tests and see what you can come up with (it might come out a bit greeny or dull looking over hair that isn't light enough though)
