Planning on going silver but need to fix this problem

Hi everybody,

So I plan to dye my hair silver. A few months ago I tried to dye it a very pale blonde. I had dyed tips already but hadn't been dyed for about 9 months. And just my natural colour roots which is a mousy blonde. I followed instructions and my hair came out mixture of colours which I expected. The predyed hair was a silver and the rest was a coppery blonde. So not really the colour I was trying to achieve. When I have been dying my hair the last year or so it hasn't been coming out the colour I want. Any tips what I should do first before trying to go silver.

You need a very light blonde base for silver.

What have you been using to dye your hair?

The only way I know of to get that light would be to bleach it, since your hair is already blonde, your half way there, you should be able to do a mild bleach bath and get to the color that you can then tone to get silver. Your going to need to let it bleach to inside of a banana peel color and then you can go for a silver toner or a lot of people on here have mixes they use to achieve the same color, I've never personally gone silver, so I don't know what direct dyes work best for that, but there are plenty of people who have shared their stories on here, I would just do a search in the color profiles for silver and you should get a pretty good idea.

I was going to suggest a bleach bath too. I never had any success using even platinum box dyes, my hair always came out straw coloured (and my hair is naturally mousey too!). It can all depend on how much pigment is in your hair and I think mine has a lot of yellow so maybe yours does too?

The difference between a bleach bath and a blonde box dye on my hair is amazing though, a bleach bath with low volume developer and a good quality bleach takes my hair to a very light blonde very quickly (though still with quite a lot of yellow tones as my hair won't seem to lose them!).

As with Emmer, I'm not sure what silver toners are best, but there are plenty of people on here who have tried them if you look in the Show Off Your Hair section of the site.
