Hello all!
While I'm waiting for my SFX Atomic Pink, I've been thinking about other colours I'd like to try at some point, and had an idea for olive green hair. Looking at the greens on the website they all seem like really strong greens, limes or teals rather than an olivey colour.
The only thing I can seem to find is wig pictures hahaha, so forgive me.
My question is - has anyone here tried this kind of colour, or gotten it by accident? What should I mix to try and achieve this colour?
Thanks!
Natural ash browns come out this sort of khaki colour over a bleached base. Some of the Nice n Easy semis are very green based, you could add a splash of something like Iguana green to green it up more.
I got a very similar colour to this a couple of years ago, when I put Directions Midnight Blue over my unbleached, light brown/caramel hair, just to see what would happen. Maybe it was a little darker than the one in the picture you posted, but still very close
Or you could try one of the bright greens and very slowly add orange. You just want to start making the colour more muddy.
I'm drawn to this colour for some reason! Probably because of the ashiness.
I'd definitely agree with Wicked Pixie about ash browns, or dark ash blondes even, which I used to use quite a lot as they do turn out a very neutral greenish.
And I like Janine's suggestion, but personally I have never had much luck myself in using colours on the opposite ends of the colour spectrum to neutralise. Just was never able to get the right mix without it looking like one colour sitting on top of the other!
I'm not sure what you mean Alexia? If you're mixing the dyes, how can they be sitting on top of each other... Definitely not understanding that one lol
Hee hee, I don't know that my colour molecules ever actually mixed properly - never had luck mixing them, but maybe that's just me!
I remember having autumn-leaf hair last, well, autumn... I honestly couldn't tell if my hair was a nice, leafy green, or yellow, or turning to orange. All the colours seemed to be there, and not just in spots or separate areas - it was an all-over effect. If I used a bluey-purple and a bit of orange to combat the blue, I'd get green with an orange overcast.
I've had much better results using more neutral tones to achieve a neutral colour, rather than mixing primary colours, but I think I just have odd hair. π
I've been the same in regards to not being able to find a green that's perfect for what I want.
Mixing, as said above, is the way to go - or letting certain dyes fade to a shade you like. I want a sort of olive-ish green/yellow colour, and Iguana Green by SFX fades perfectly to the shade I want so I'm waiting for it to be back in stock and doing with Electric Lizard in the meantime.
As for what colours to mix, you could either try a dark teal with something yellow-ish and see how they mix, or one of the brighter greens with an orange or brown. It can be tricky when you've not done it before though because you have to buy multiple dyes and if they don't go how you expect, you can be losing on a few Β£ ):
