Hey! Has anyone heard of the oil slick hair trend? I am going to start the process of color b4 soon, bleaching, and then putting blue in my hair.... but a friend just told me about this oil slick trend where it is less damaging. Does anyone know if this is a process that can be done at home?
Edit: as far as I can tell they are layering different colors on top but I don't understand how it works I guess.
"Less damaging" is basically being thrown around as a marketing term, since you don't need to bleach as much as you do for pastels but you can still have multiple colours in your hair. It's just layering of darker coloured semis onto hair that's been bleached just a few levels rather than all the way to the pale yellow needed for pastels to show up. It's not a special process.
So just control damage by doing the minimum amount of bleaching, and always with coconut oil, or Olaplex if you can get it, as usual. How much bleaching you need to do will depend on the result you have after colourb4 and how bright you want the blue.
As far as I can work out, it's only less damaging because you're bleaching less. The problem with this is, fade is likely to be very icky and muddy.
Thanks! I thought that was the case, but I just wanted to be sure. On with my original plan ... although I really do like that peacock colors I think I am going to start small since I am so inexperienced.
