Nirvel ArtX Grey made hair... Plum?

Hey guys!

I decided I wanted to go a dark grey colour after having SFX Iguana Green for a little while, so I faded it a lot and got it to a lemon yellow (very pale, pretty much a bleach blonde yellow). I used Nirvel ArtX in Grey as the pale yellow seemed like the ideal base for it as it's purple-toned, but it went pretty much a very dark plum colour even though I diluted it 50/50 with conditioner and left it on for about 10 mins. I'm guessing this was because my hair was quite porous.

This is the colour I have atm(it has a noticeable reddish tinge in the light, more than in the photo) vs what I'm aiming for:

Is it possible I could fix this without bleaching, maybe by cooling the colour down somehow? I don't want to have to bleach it all out but I get the impression this colour wont fade easily. Perhaps mixing blue or turquoise with a lot of conditioner, but I don't want it to go greenish or straight up brown or black.

Thanks!

your hair was probably too yellow which took up all the purple in the dye. The purple is what makes the color more ashy but if it is used up to tone the yellow in the hair then it no longer makes the color ashy. you could try to use some purple shampoo to add a little bit of purple back into it, or you can fade it and start again.

you should try these fading methods before resorting to any bleach or peroxide product. They are much gentler on the hair. If you chose to fade and start over, tone the yellow hair with a purple toner before using the grey dye.

Ahh ok, I guess I had a bit of a misunderstanding of how toning works, my bad!

I think I may try the purple shampoo, but if I used it over a dark plum-ish colour would it not just make it more purple?

I would just wash it a few times with hot water and shampoo and see how it fades.

Thanks for the help guys. I used a couple of fading techniques (turns out this dye is REALLY hard to fade whatsoever) and I am in the realm of grey hair! (the pic below is a bit naff but it's definitely grey and not brown/black in person)

Only issue is up close there are a few purple and green flecks, or at least when its under bright sunlight. But I'll live.
