Never using Directions Plum ever again!! stained green hair :-(

I have been dying my hair for years, starting with natural toned permanents until last year when I took the plunge and tried bright semis. The last semi I used was Directions Plum and it was a nightmare from the start! I constantly had a blue neck and hands and after only a few washes my hair had very uneven streaks of blue and pinky purple :-(. I'd had enough, so tried to strip it out with Jo Bazz colour remover. I ended up with blonde roots (from previous bleaching) and turquoise stained hair!! My hair was so dry I didn't dare bleach it again so had to rush out and buy a red/brown hair dye to cover the mess. I REALLY want to go back to my lovely cherry red again but I have no idea how I can. Any help would be much appreciated!

How dark was the green? Chances are the cherry red would have covered it.
Either let the box dye fade naturally (they don't last long on bleached hair) or use a colour remover if your hair is up to it. You don't need a super pale base for a deep red.

A lot of reds and even oranges will cover up green/blue just fine, even darker green surprisingly! Sorry that you've had such a bad experience with the plum, a lot of people haven't been happy with it since Directions changed it + have been having a really difficult time removing it.

If your hair is in good enough shape, try doing a color remover to bring you back to your blonde/turquoise and if you could post a photo that would be great. If it's still pretty dark you could try some fading treatments like vitamin c/baking soda with a clarifying shampoo.

Here's some examples of reds/oranges covering blue/green/purple:

Thanks Ladies!! I really didn't think that red would cover it, but I think i'll let it fade a bit then try another colour remover and see how it comes out. It was a light turquoise colour last time ( should have taken a pic!) so hopefully a darker red would cover it πŸ™‚

I had long hair and bleached it, then applied Plum and it went an inky blueish purple. I loved it but then it started to fade more and more into blue and then into green, because my base was yellow, as I was aiming for a supposed pink based purple. Since Directions changes the formula and it seems to be totally blue based now, it stained my hair green.

As I couldn't get my hair purple that way, I just dyed my hair box dye black. Now it's fading and showing the green underneath! xD But I'm also aiming for a red next, just letting it naturally fade as much as possible before doing anything.

I told you all of this not to bore you, but to tell you you are not alone! Thank god I cut my hair short or else my hair would still be one big mess.

Thanks Xana! It's nice to know I'm not alone  :D. I can't believe that one application of a semi permanent dye could stain the hair so much. I'm determined to get back to my beloved red again and I hope you manage it too. Please let me know how you get on x
