Mixing black with lighter colours?

Recently I've been very into darker colours on my hair. By dark I mean shades of navy or green that are darker than the likes of after midnight blue or green envy, which seem to be some of the few greens/blues which aren't super bright. Doesn't stand out lots but is very pretty :PMy hair is currently very dark green; almost black; with a lovely glossy emerald shine to it and slightly varying levels of colour. It's definitely noticeably green, but it's not bright or loud even in the sunlight. However I got it by trying some blue dye on top of MP Green Envy before it had actually faded much/at all so it's not something I can keep doing to keep the colour.I was wondering how it'd work if I mixed black with a lighter colour, even if only a tiny bit? I'd love to toy with the idea; near-black shades with pink, blue, green etc. tones but am unsure if it'd work due to the base colours of black dyes and how much it'd take over :PAnyone tried mixing black(semi permanent of course) with brighter colours to darken them before and how did it go?Here are some examples of what I mean or nearso:I should note that my hair is prettty dark naturally and does not take well to semi dyes when unbleached so trying that wouldnt work too well ):

Manic Panic Raven is green based black as far as I remember.

I mixed it with midnight blue to darken it down a bit and it ended up coming out as a really dark emerald sort of colour and faded into a muddy greenish colour.
