Hi all!
So, I'm quite bored with my hair now. I've let it grow (it's all natural!) and got some californian highlights by my hairdresser, but I deeply, truly want to go a dark teal colour (this has nothing to do with my appreciation for She Hulk, nope, not at all!).
I've been using that Sun Jelly thing from L'Oreal in order to lighten my hair in a even way, as I don't want to lose the highlight gradient, and been using a Silver shampoo (it's purple though?!) in order to get rid of the yellow brassiness. I wonder if the dye would stick to unbleached hair like it is now? Or should I do a bleach bath?
Train selfie. Beware of yellow light!
Omg pretty haircolour *.*
other examples as I don't want to eat your traffic with posting images directly (alternatively, google Kevin Wada's She Hulk):
Also, which colour/colours do you reckon I should get to achieve thit result? I want it to be /dark/, not /neon/ (if you catch my drill). I loved Alpine Green by directions, but apparently the formula has changed?
Thanks so much in advance!
I think you'd get a really deep green over this, or maybe do a gentle bleach bath first just to lighten your hair a couple of shades first. I was actually going to suggest alpine green but if you don't trust the New formula (I have no idea about the New formula since I haven't used it) then maybe sonic green by special effects would work?
A mix of manic panic enchanted forest and green envy gives this dark green. Not sure on the ratios though
I think the Sun Jelly thing is pretty bad for your hair.
It contains peroxide and it's a leave-in right?
You should never leave Peroxide in your hair for long.
Yes, please don't use Sun Jelly for this kind of lightening. Preferably not at all really...
Sun jelly will have bleached your hair, so there's no worry about the dye sticking, but I definitely think you need to bleach bath at the very least or it will turn out very dark as Marthakins says.
I've gotten a similar colour by mixing stargazer blue black and stargazer tropical green in a 1:1 ratio. It looked like this :
It was always over a lightened base though. Alpine green always turned out very green for me, not very teal. Haven't tried the new formula (at least I think I haven't). But from what I've read the new formula is pretty green.
^ That's one of my all-time favourite colours right there π
Rij, that's an awesome colour! What was the starting base? How light did you have to go?
I dyed over a faded green base and my base before the green was dark yellow, I don't think you need very light bases for darker greens or teals. It might be more on the green side if dyed directly over the yellow, I'm not sure. It's been very forgiving for me, the mix of blue black and tropical green. My base was uneven and it covered beautifully both times I used it. Didn't have much rub-off either, maybe good to know, though that can vary between people.
I once dyed stargazer blue black over my natural auburn hair and it came out dark green, so if that's what you're after I think it's pretty forgiving π
Just in regard to the lightness of your base: I've put (the old formula!) Directions Turquoise over a dark yellow, borderline gingery base and it turned out this deep emerald green:
So I don't think your base needs to be that light. π
these greens are gorgeous! its making me wanna go green! but i remember how hard it is to get rid off when you wanna change lol
Hi all again!
Thanks for telling me about the Sun Jelly. I did notice my hair complaining *shakes fists* but thought it had to do with having changed shampoos. I will warn my friends about it asap!
Rij, it looks great and suits you very well! But i wanted an even darker colour. Maybe your dye mix will do tho, seeing as my hair is darker than your base π
I had preference for Directions or CC as they are on the cheaper side and had good staying power when used Turquoise but will check on Stargazer. You say Alpine Green was too green, but what if i mix it with turq?
Thanks all so much!
Directions Turquoise and Alpine Green are both much greener than they used to be, since the formula changes last summer. To create a dark teal i would suggest mixing with a dark green based blue like Midnight Blue. I would go for Alpine over turquoise because it is much darker. I have not tried the new formula though, the old formula would have been pretty close on its own.
Thanks! How about CCs Pine Green? I just stumbled upon it, or peacock blue... they do look nice..
