Hey all! I recently ordered some Electric Banana and Lime green hair dyes and while I wait for it to arrive am bleaching my hair. It's the first time in a long while I've done it and want to do a nice gradient between the yellow and green for summer.
It is the first time in a few years I've dyed my hair (I'm usually a redhead) and also the first time I've done it with a slightly longer haircut. While I used the same platinum blonde lightening kit I did back then, because of the difference in the amount of hair I have it just doesn't look as platinum as it did on a pixie cut! It's still a little yellowy-orange
If I was really set on light purple or something, I'd know I'd have to give it another go or hit it with toner. But... I'm going for a bright yellow this time, so I'm wondering, to maybe save my hair the risk of some damage, is this light enough to get a good result from Electric Banana? Can anyone who's used it speak from experience? I primarily used greens and blues before so I know they take to my hair well, but am unsure about this.
Here's just a snapshot of me under my bathroom lights and regular indoor lights. Sorry if it's a bit goofy!
I’ve not used that particular yellow, but yellows can be picky! You’ll definitely be able to get yellow over it but it might swing a little golden. It’s a bit hard to tell with indoor photos so I’ll assume it looks more yellow than it actually is. Honestly, I’d recommend doing a strand test as see if it’s gojng to work 🙂
Thanks for the advice! Based on the strand test the yellow was a little golden and the green was a little dull so I got a slightly gentler lightening kit and some of the purple conditioner for reducing brassy tones in blondes. after that I did a thorough shampoo the next day as the manic panic container recommends, and put in the yellow and green. I also did the white vinegar rinse they recommend on the website after the initial rinse (I left the color on for an hour) which seemed to make a little more yellow pigment come off but didn't affect the brightness (and is supposed to make it last better, which we'll see I guess!)
The result was pretty good. I was worried about the second lightening a bit, and my hair did feel a little stiff afterwards but leaving the dye in for a while has made it almost as soft as it is naturally again. Electric banana is soo glowy once you have it all over. I think because Electric banana is already a borderline yellowy-green, the gradient effect to the Lime wasn't as apparent as I hoped but you can still tell it goes greener towards the tips and I like it. Maybe when I have to touch it up in a few weeks I'll add a bluer green to the bottom to make the effect more pronounced, but for now I'm enjoying how cool it looks.
