Jo Baz turned my red hair black...

I used Jo Baz to strip my red hair and this is the result. I've never had black hair in my life, my hair is bleach blonde with red dye (Live XXL and SFX).

Can anyone help? Do I need to bleach my hair to lighten it now or strip it again?

Jo Baz is doing some strange things at the moment. You could try the Jo Baz again, or try another brand. I'm not sure if it would work, but it's worth a try before heading for the bleach.

It's likely that the dark tones you're seeing at the ends of your hair are a buildup from the Live XXL.  All Live XXL reds (with the exception of the newest range of true semi colours) are brown based, so even though they may come out red, there are still brown pigments in the dye.  Since your ends would have the most cumulative build up of dye, this is where you are seeing the dark tones.  Jo Bazz and Colour B4 can reoxidise, meaning that the pigments which have been shrunk can expand again when oxygen hits the hair if it wasn't rinsed out enough.  Scott Cornwall's newer decolour remover has less likelihood of doing this as it shatters the pigments to remove them, instead of just shrinking them.  I would suggest trying again with the decolour remover and seeing where that gets you, then maybe bleach bathing the ends only if you need more lift afterwards.

I agree with what the others have said, but also what is your next goal? What colour are you planning on going next? This can also effect how best to proceed.

i would try the decolor remover as Mindi said  and as a last resort if that didnt work and your hair is in decent condition, i would do a 10 minute 20vol bleach bath.
Shouldnt need anything stronger than 20 vol really.

Remember that you can use a color remover up to three times so try that before using any peroxide.

I used a second stripper and also had to bleach bath the really dark parts. This is the result - is it light enough to put Directions Rose Red over? I'm hoping for a deep pink result, not really bright pink.

That should be fine for a deep pink 🙂

I just want to add, in case anyone else reads this and for the future, don't use peroxide on your hair for at least a week after using a colour remover. It can cause any residual colour to reoxidise and leave you back where you started.

I use directions on dry hair that has been shampooed but no conditioner. You'll get a lovely result over that with rose red 🙂 please post pics!

So I left the rose red on for a couple of hours and this is the result.... I'm not happy with it - it looks no different from the SFX Blood Red I had before - seems like two colour removers, a bleach bath and two tubs of dye was a waste of time and money!

I wanted a deep pink - does anyone have any suggestions?

What about directions cerise? Fade that out and put cerise on the faded red.

My hair is rose red at moment and mine is also a lot more red than pink. I think because your hair after the bleach bath was a bit orangey you will need to build up the pink over a few applications or as meeshybop says go with cerise once it's faded a bit.

Rose Red comes out that ruby colour on orangey bases. I think you would get a red from Cerise as well. It may fade pinker, but to get a true magenta tone you will need a lighter base, sorry. It does look lovely though.
