Hello 🙂 I could really use your help...
Its my first time dying my hair so I have 0 experience...I have dark brown curly hair, length below boobs and I wanna dye it alpine green(Directions hair dye) and because It's my first time I think about ombre (starting slow I'm afraid of bleach) so do u think a jar of hair dye is enough ?Also I don't wanna overbleach my hair but I want a dark green so I think so I don't think I'll have a problem
I'm pretty sure one tub would enough. I died my friends hair in an ombré and her hair was below her boobs. We probably only used a quarter or a third of a manic panic tub. I know the directions tubs are smaller but I'm assuming it will be enough for one go.
thanks for replying 🙂 I want the ombre effect to start up to chin level so that's why I worry...I have medium thickness hair...I would buy 2 of them to be sure although as a student I can't make my own money so the last thing I want is asking too much from my parents...
Don't worry my friend wanted exactly that! Her ombré started around her chin and she has one length (no layers) thick black asian hair. She actually dyed it green too which is a funny coincidence! If the green is quite pigmented and you think you're going to run out you could mix a tiny amount of conditioner into the dye. Not too much though, you don't want to make the green too light but just so it barely changed the colour. That will mean you have slightly more dye to spread over the hair. I did that when I dyed my friends hair but I think the colour would have been better if I didn't dilute it at all because her hair was still quite dark after the bleach and when it was diluted ever so slightly it meant the green come out more warm green rather than a cooler green. But to be honest you probabably won't need to dilute it.
I saw a youtube video and a girl with chin length hair used a whole tub (she dyed just the tips of her hair)...I ve thought about diluting but I wasn't sure,so I am glad I found someone that has experienced it... Now I have a weird plan B...Will it work?probably not ...Maybe I can leave the tips undyied and if by any chance I have to dilute hair dye I will have only the tips and it will create an ombre effect rather than having just 1/4 of my hair light green...The point is that nothing can end up worse than all the times I ve cut my hair...
Since you aren't bleaching to a light blonde watch out on how much you dilute. If your dye mix isn't pigmented enough it may turn out murky. If you're buying from a local shop I'd suggest picking up two just to be sure if you are able. You can always return it if you don't use it.
Yes I was going to say only dilute as a very last resort. And only dilute a very tiny amount. We diluted with Conditioner but in some places it did look a little murky. Perhaps when you bleach, if you find it didn't lift evenly use it straight on the darkest bits first, and if you have lots left over cover all of the bleached bits. If you're running low you could dilute it ever so slightly on the bits which are a little lighter
Also, directions should only be around £4 so it's not as expensive as other dyes. Sometimes it can be slightly more like £6. Perhaps if you do need money from your parents to get an extra tub you could explain that you will pay them back, or say you will not ask them to buy something else for a while etc. I understand dyeing on a budget is difficult. I always hated asking my parents for anything.
I know that's why I still have my doubts, that's what I will try doing although I don't think I'll need a second one ..It's difficult finding Directions since I don't live in UK ,it costs 8,50€ - 11,00€ here...My parents won't have a problem giving me the money I just feel bad asking them...I am the problem, not the money,I don't like asking...Even if we were billionaires I would feel bad asking for money...I discussed it with my mother and she agreed buying another one if needed...and just because I want to experiment if I won't use it I will return it and get a different color
Don't worry it's completely the same for me. I would basically never ask my parents for anything at all. Most people would often ask their parents for stuff, whereas for me my parents would end up asking me if I'm sure I don't need money to go out, since I'd never say anything.
Maybe you could order of amazon? Or from beeunique (this site), I'm pretty sure they ship to most places. Even in the uk I have a hard time finding places that sell these dyes. Crazy colour is the only one commonly available, and that's the brand of direct dye people seem to like the least.
they sell crazy colour in every hair salon, you can find manic panic (online only)and directions online but often shipping costs 1/2+ of the product so it isn't worth it unless you buy more than2 colors and you have the patience to wait weeks or even a month...It is a 20 minute road using the subway so it isn't that far...I reallised that my best friend's cousin had died her hair not long ago...she has 1/2 of my hair and she dyed it all...So if she used one I will be good with one two
It totally depends on your hair. Some people with really long hair only need one. My hair has always really soaked up the dye and one pot just does my hair as it is in my profile pic.
I'm not sure who it is that likes crazy colour best? Lol seems to me it's mostly people who haven't dyed hair for long. It would be better to spend more if you can on directions. It does last longer. Also, go to the section of the forum called tutorials and at the top should be a thread called 'how to keep my colour vibrant'. That thread will save you the most money in the long run!
I used two pots when i had shoulder length hair. So i would buy two just in case. Its very annoying when you run out mid way.
Directions is a thick formula, I always dilute it with warm water and apply to dry hair. It goes much further that way without diluting the colour.
Thanks Wicked Pixie for sharing that! I had no idea you could do that! Would it work with manic panic or is that too gel-like to be watered down?
I don't see why not, although I have never used Manic Panic myself
