I need help! (Pastel hair)

Hello,
I recently decided I would be dying my hair a crazy tone (lilac, pink, or blue) I have never really dyed my entire head of hair so this would be a first for me, meaning I need help.
My hair is healthy and doesn't have any dye in it, my current color is something of a dark blonde, I know I would have to bleach my hair for the pastel colors to show but I cant do that so i´m hoping for a different solution.
I would definitely make an exception for a darker color but I will not bleach! lol.
So how would i achieve this? Could you post any pics of what it might look like with no bleach? thank you all.

It simply isn't possible. Pastel dyes need a near white base, on darker hair the colour won't even show up, or just barely tint it if your hair is a light blonde.
You can use a darker colour, but the colour of your base will affect the outcome unless you go for a very dark shade. Can you post a pic of your current colour? There is an unbleached section in the Gallery showing various dyes over natural hair. Reds/pinks/oranges etc (warm colours) tend to work very well on unbleached bases, but the colour will not last long on unprocessed hair.

Hello, thank you...I do realize I will not get the pastel effect but I still plan on dyeing my hair pink or purple but I dont want it to be too dark. this picture is close to my hair color, do you know any colors that would show up on this color?

The pic isn't showing. Almost any colour that isn't a pastel will work on darker hair, but theses dyes are translucent, the base colour will affect the outcome so you won't get the swatch colour (it is an example of the colour on a bleached base)
So over natural blonde shades you can have pink or purple but it will be more muted.

I´m so sorry but its not letting me place the pic. Anyway, I understand I wont be able to get pastel hair but what about a darker pink on warm brunette hair? (I´m sorry for asking so many questions! I am very grateful)

So your hair is brunette? Or blonde? I'm a bit confused! If it's brunette it'll have to be a darker purple or red. A dark pink might work, but it would have to be a dark, almost hitting on purple kind of pink and it will look even darker on your hair, might not look pink at all.

On dark blonde almost anything in the mid to dark range of colours will work, but will be on the darker/muted side if its a mid range colour, as wicked pixie says.

You would be better off doing a light bleach bath at least, so it'll stick better. It'll wash out very fast on virgin hair. What is the reason you don't want to bleach, just out of interest?

Thanks for the help! My hair is a mix of brown and blonde, the reason I dont want to bleach is because I cut my long hair because it was so damaged and now its finally healthy again, I dont hate my natural color I actually like it but I want a change (a crazy change) I dont really understand what you mean by a muted color could you show me any pics?

If you imagine drawing on white paper with a pink or purple felt tip you get a bright vivid colour. Use the same pens on brown or yellow paper the colours are much less vivid. It is the same with hair dye, the brown tones in the hair make the colours more natural and less bright. If there are warm tones (orange/yellow) in the hair that also affects the final colour. So pink on a yellow/orange base is more red, blue comes out green, purples tend to go more of a burgundy shade. On brown hair the colour will be much darker and more subtle.

Here is the Hair Dye Forum gallery of unnatural colours put on unbleached hair http://www.hairdyegallery.co.uk/unbleachedpage1.html If you look for Virgin Rose or Atomic Pink, they are very bright pinks on bleached hair, but you can see they are a more burgundy colour on natural hair colours. There is a Sky Blue on ginger hair, which has gone a (lovely) green shade.

Thank you very much! I loved the purple it was on brown hair, I might go for that!
