I need help achieving this colour

Hey guys,

My name is Elisabeth and I have just recently have had my hair bleached and dyed red (will attach a photo of my current colour and the colour I want). I don't really like the colour because I asked the hair dresser of the colour i wanted and showed them the photo and they didn't give me that colour so I have been doing some researching and have come across directions hair dye, I was wondering if I could mix two colours to try and dye over the red I have to achieve this colour? I was thinking poppy red and rubine? If so what should the ratio be? I maybe wrong and I am happy to other colour mixes/colours or other brand/colour suggestions. Any help would be great thanks.

There's no golden rule with ratios. Get a pot of each, start putting small dollops in a bowl until you get the colour you'd like!

The colours you mentioned sound good.

One thing to keep in mind though. Photos like that will have been edited to make the colours have that extra oomph. The red will be overly saturated, so it's highly unlikely it looks like that in reality. Having said that, it does look like you could get a richer colour, but keep expectations in check πŸ™‚ You're super close as it is.

Thank you, I am just not familiar with dying over red, because my hair is already red would i still need to mix those two colours to acheive that colour? What am i best putting more of in?

My hair came out sort of like that with rubine and vermillion red but slightly brighter so poppy red might be better for you. As janine said just pop colours into a bowl until it comes to a shade that you like and pop it on πŸ™‚

Thanks for the advice guys. Will I need to bleach my hair or strip it before I put those colours on or is it right to go over the red I have now (pictured earlier). Thanks πŸ™‚

I don't think there's a need to fade, but maybe do a couple of fading sessions using one of the methods here http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=1704.0 if you'd like, it might help with the brightness.

Definitely no need for bleach in any way what so ever! πŸ™‚ Again, I think you're super close to it anyway, there's very little difference in your photo and the other you posted.

Thank you for the reply, my hair actually looks more red and bright then the photo I took as that was at night with a flash. I want it to be less as intense and more like the photo I wanted. I am still trying to decide what two colours would be best to blend. If you guys could please take a look at this graph and see which two would achieve this colour. My hair is a bright red at the moment with a pink undertone not orange if that helps.

The original ones you said sound about right. Sorry, I thought I'd said that πŸ™‚

Okay thank you, sorry to be a pain, just one more question, my hair is just above bust length and fairly thick. How far does 1 88ml jar go? Thanks

I'd get three pots of Directions for thick hair that length.

I always dilute Directions slightly with water (it is a very thick formula) to make it easier to spread, and apply to dry hair. I think two pots will be enough, but always better to have some spare, you can add it to your conditioner to keep the color topped up.
Rubine is a lovely colour, but it fades much pinker than the deep red it starts out as. So you might not want to add the Poppy (which is a pink based red) depends how pink you want it. If it fades too pink you can add an orange based red to balance it out. (I like Fire)

How did it come out? I would have also suggested Rubine, so you are on the right track.
