I've seen plenty of people who swear my sfx Blue Mayhem. I've never tried it but I bet that's the one you'll get the most comments on.

As well as seeing photos in the hair dye gallery you can also see user reviews for these dyes which may help you to decide which colour you think would work best for you: Special Effects Blue Mayhem Reviews & Manic Panic Shocking Blue Reviews

In terms of sales we sell more Blue Mayhem than we do of Shocking Blue if that helps any.

I do love blue mayhem. Its great because its a blue that work even over darker blondes well. It doesn't last too long on darker blondes, but it lasts really well on pale yellow hair. It also fades purple-y then to a light pink-white shade, rather than green.

It also dilutes with conditioner to a decent toner!

My hair is bleached to a fairly pale yellow, and I've ordered SFX Blue Mayhem. Will that cover the yellowish blonde or will it go green instead of blue? Also, My hair has some very faded bits of Atomic Pink (I bleached twice and it still won't go!), will Blue Mayhem cover it?

I've had blue cover pale yellow just fine before, Directions Neon Blue and Lagoon Blue was what worked fine.

I think you'll be fine with the SFX but expect the Blue Mayhem to maybe go purple over the Atomic Pink, I think that might give your hair a really cool effect though 🙂

I agree, if your hair is pale yellow you should be fine with Blue Mayhem as its a strong blue colour.  It's mainly lighter/pastel shades or greeny-blues that a yellow base can affect more.  As Kittylost said the pink parts may take on a more pinky/purple tint to the blue but if it does I think it would look nice.

As Blue Mayhem has a purple-ish base it should help to neautralise the yellow anyway so I'd try that if it was me.

I had no problem- I don't like to bleach my hair more than banana yellow really, b/c it is thin, prone to breakage and very dark.  I used SFX fishbowl and blue mayhem.

see alot of people say you need your hair iceblonde for the blue to work, but mine was a gingery colour when i put mine on, and it was fine, obv the lighter your hair is, the better the colour will look
i always think of a white sheet of paper and a blue pen, and a dark brown or black piece of paper and a blue pen.. which bit of paper is the blue gonna look its best on? x)

well it depends on which blue you want. if you want a dark one like directions midnight blue you don't need as light a colour. whereas if you wanted something like directions atlantic blue you'd need to be VERY blonde, almost white.

your best bet is to try and fade your red, using bleach baths, colour b4, washing up liquid and clarifying shampoo.

this thread may help

i went from flamingo pink to blue, but i did 2x 40% vol bleaches and killed my hair. so don't do that. then i used a toner from superdrug which was amazng to get my hair to an almost white then went blue after that.

Hi there,

I need some advice on which blue dye to buy

I’m doing my sisters hair in a couple of week. She is naturally dark brown and I’m putting in extensions for her. She had the bright idea that she would like to have her hair dyed blue, and asked if I could dye her own hair and the extensions. I think what she is wanting is a 2-tone effect as she wants her own hair to be blue, but she’s asked for extensions that are lighter than her normal hair (light-medium brown). I guess what she is hoping for is a dye that will take really well on the extensions, but take on a darker blue on her own hair.

I have explained to her that we could just get extensions that are already blue, but she says all the blue extensions she has seen are ‘too blue’! As in vibrant electric blue, which she is adamant that she does not want. However, she does not want her hair and extensions to be ‘just a bluish sheen but basically just jet black’……………..why are little sisters so demanding??  :'(

So I guess she wants a dye that is in between a crazy blue colour and a blue-black sheen. Any ideas on which brand and colour would be best?

P.S she does not want any bleach in her hair so the dye will be going on her own hair which is unprocessed. I assume the extensions will have gone through processes anyway so the dye should take more

Thanks for all your help guys xxxx

First of all, make sure the extensions are 100% human hair, some brands which claim to be are actually a mix. Take a look in the "Unbleached hair" section of the gallery, there are a couple examples of blue there although it's mostly reds and purples.

I've had Directions Neon Blue come out a dark blue thats more than just a sheen but still bright but rich instead of vibrant.
