Directions mix 50% neon blue, 50% atlantic blue - Very bright and vibriant, fades to neon. Holds for about 2 weeks before fading.

Yep this is a favourite of mine too. Also Atlantic blue & Lagoon blue if I want a more... lagoony? feel to my blue.

Hello all,

Great thread! Just what I was looking for!

I have jet black hair and went to the salon this Saturday to get my hair bleached so that I could apply some Manic Panic Shocking Blue. I got my hair to a honey/blond colour before dying and looking at my hair today, it looks black from a distance! Only on close up and in light does my roots look blue but the ends are black? We used bleach vol 20 on my roots and 30 on the ends.

Originally, 2 months ago, I used, I believe, either Directions or Crazy Colour blue for my original highlights and it came out great but I wanted to try an expensive brand for my complete head dye because I found the cheaper brand leaked like mad, staining my shirts, pillow cases etc, even 3 weeks on. I just don't get it? I've seen some people use MP Shocking Blue and it looks great, vibrant, why on earth did mine come out black?

Also, what's the most vibrant blue out there?

SFX Blue Mayhem

or

Directions 50% neon blue with 50% atlantic blue?

I'm really upset this morning as I spent 6 hours in the Salon this Saturday for nothing.....

๐Ÿ˜ฎ What brand and shade of blue did you use 'cause i don't get how it could'v turned out black. Unless you used a very dark blue or a blacky blue.
A friend of mine used directions midnight blue and it looked very dark, almost black. But it faded after a while to a paler murky blue.
If you've used a non permanent blue dye you should be able to re do it after it fades.

Hello Sarah,

I used Manic Panic Shocking Blue Amplified.

I'm going to try lighten it up by washing my hair with warm water, and see if that makes a difference. Hopefully, I can fade it enough so that I do not have to re-bleach my hair. I'm going to give CandyCatvomit's method a go using Atlantic Blue/Neon Blue.

Ta,

๐Ÿ™‚

I've just had a very very disappointing result with SFX Blue-Haired Freak. I did my usual pre-colour lightening routine, and it came out mostly a sort of manky turquoise colour  - in some areas, the dye hadn't taken at all! Have never had this kind of problem before with any other colour or brand, so am really quite dissapointed.

Is this a common problem with this particular shade?

Hey you,

I am sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience with SFX Blue-Haired Freak ๐Ÿ™ How does it look now, after having it washed a few times? Will you be stripping the colour and re-dying with another shade/brand?

I have an update with my Manic Panic Shocking Blue Amplified. After being so disappointed it had turned out very dark blue/black, after around 4 washes the colour definitely lightened up to a blue. Still not like CandyCatvomitโ€™s blue hair (which I utterly love) but itโ€™s blue now after a few weeks. I think the Amplified range intentionally starts of dark and gradually lightens up, thatโ€™s what gives it itโ€™s โ€œAmplifiedโ€ properties lol.

I went out this weekend and everyone was looking at me blue hair lol. Iโ€™m quite insecure but since dying my hair blue I somewhat enjoy life more and itโ€™s no longer a constant battle, only sometimes 

I hopefully will be going back to the Salon this Saturday, armed with 3 x Neon Blue and 3 x Atlantic Blue and I should come out with CandyCatvomit hair! Hereโ€™s hoping 

Oh, I have around 4-5 Manic Panic Shocking Blue dyes, sealed. If anyone wants them, please PM me and I can sell them at a discount to you.

Thanks,

I actually already stripped it and re-dyed it the following day, with SFX Cherry Bomb, and it looks great now. I am a bit shy about trying blue again after this experience. Think I'll stick to pink for a while ๐Ÿ™‚

hey,

i know there is alot of topics about blue hair, but i can't see mine being answered anywhere.

i'm going blue in a couple of months, i want to be a mid to dark blue, i like laser eye's avatar colour, with the neon and atlantic mix, but i don't want my hair to fade to grey or purple, so can anyone tell me what colour these two fade to, cos i think neon goes purple, which i don't want, but i also don't want murky pond water colour  ๐Ÿ˜ฎ any help would be greatly appreciated! as i said, im not doing it for a while, so just trying to swot up. i no i need like white hair and all that shiz. i think im gonna stick to directions, cos my hair holds it better. many thanks  ;D

Directions Neon Blue is very much purple based and will fade to purple shades if applied onto hair with no yellow tones in it.

Directions Atlantic Blue is green based and will tend to fade to greener shades, depending on the colour of the base hair.

Colours fading to "murky" shades are actually more due to the colour of the base hair rather than the dye used. The paler your hair is and the fewer yellow tones it has the less likely you are to end up with a murky fade.

I've ordered some Special Effects Blue Velvet hair dye today. Very excited! I've clearly already made my decision about the colour, but I was just wandering if anyone could give me their own opinions and experience on this particular dye.

I've never used this dye, but i must admit i want to, as the popular opinion is its one of the longest lasting blue dyes about.

Which also means your stuck with it a while! Though it seems to fade to a nice purple ๐Ÿ™‚ Let me know how it goes!

me too, i was thinking about trying a blue as a base under my natural blonde hair
but i also wanted a purple, so a blue that fades to purple would be excellent!
how are you planning to do it?
all over?

Blue velvet starts quite dark but is a nice long lasting deep blue.  It does fade a bit purpley.  Actually after looking at my hair it has gone very purple!

Not recommended if you want a lighter or brighter shade, or if you are likely to change your mind soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sounds interesting! I might have to try it when I get sick of orange (which won't be any time soon - I love love love LOVE it!) ๐Ÿ˜€

I used this colour the first time I dyed my hair an unnatural colour because I couldn't get my hair light enough for the brighter blue and was glad I did. I kept it that colour for 18 months and would like my blue hair back (it is now dyed with a temporary natural red with streaks of assorted semi reds.) It lasted a very long time and eventually had to use a bleach bath to get it all out. It did go purple after a few washes so I used to mix it with MP midnight blue or blue & black to avoid it.
