How to get out lowlights?

Hi there!

I have been platinum blonde for about a year and have loved it. Recently, I decided that I wanted a little more dimension instead of solid white and went to the salon to get some lowlights put in. The stylist used Goldwell 8GB for these lowlights, a demi permanent dye.

They turned out fine, but pretty light (closer to a 9 for sure). Instead of adding dimension to my blonde it kind of just blended together and made it darker and more yellow/gold. I miss the platinum blonde I had and want these lowlights out. I've washed my hair twice with dish soap hoping they would fade out easily- they've maybe slightly faded but are still mostly the same looking.

How do I get back to a platinum blonde? If I used a color remover, would I be back?

Thank you so much!

Use a colour remover. It will also remove any toners you've used in the past, but just use purple shampoo (toners with peroxide are incredibly harsh, many have a lot of ammonia).

Thanks so much - so once I use the color remover my hair will just be back to it's bleached state? I dyed my hair many times before I bleached it, so there is quite a bit of permanent dye I was able to bleach out. The color remover won't remove the bleach to show that old dye or anything right? Not gonna turn any crazy colors?:)

You should never bleach out old dye, you should have used a colour remover. Much more effective and almost no damage.

It won't turn funny colours if the dye is bleached. Bleach can't be removed, once something has been bleached, the colour is no longer there, so it can't return without re-dying πŸ™‚

Thanks for the info! Ok - one last question! So if I put the color remover all over my hair, the bleached parts will be fine? There are a lot of lowlights and it's going to be hard for me to only put the remover on those pieces. Would you recommend I try to only put it on the dyed lowlight pieces or is it fine to put it everywhere for convenience sake?

Make sure you use a colour remover and not a stripper though. Colour strippers are damaging, removers are only drying. Use a good deep conditioner afterwards. If you're in the UK, there's lots of options. Jo Bazz, Decolour Remover, Colour B4 among others. You can order these in Europe too. If you're in the US, you want Color Fix. I don't know if there's one in Australia though.
