How can I minimize staining? [Directions Plum]

Hello you all, so I had a blonde ombre type-thing going and decided to, instead of bleaching my roots, just dye the whole thing purple.

Recipe: Directions Plum, 1/3 of that amount Crazy Color Lilac and 1/3 conditioner.

Because I had the ombre thing, it turned out a subdued purple (as the pic above demonstrates) and my ends look black, pretty much.

I love this, but it keeps staining everything blue! Now, when I dyed it, I washed it immediately with my normal color-sensible shampoo (I always do this for veggie dyes to minimize staining, as I don't mind losing a good chunk of color right away).

Is there anything I can do right now to help this?

Would also appreciate input on other purple dyes I could try other than Directions Plum or if I have to change my recipe to include more/less conditioner to help with this problem.

TL; DR: Tell me how you prevent staining.

I would try a vinegar rinse, you just mix some vinegar in with water and put it on your hair after you have washed it, and leave it in. The smell of vinegar will die away when it dries πŸ™‚ This should stop the colour from staining a bit.

Also plum is incredibly highly pigmented and you can dilute it as much as 50/50 with conditioner without changing the colour on your hair much at all. This helps with staining a lot as well.

My mum has blue hair and used to have terrible problems with her hair staining. Literally everything she touched for too long would turn blue! (No joke :P). Someone suggested rinsing her hair in the coldest water she could handle until the water runs clear. Unless you already do this, I would recommend doing it -  it helps a lot!

I finally tired diluting plum with conditioner the other day. I only did it out of necessity, I didnt have quite enough in the pot to cover my hair, but I diluted it about 30/70 with conditioner it's come out as vibrant as usual, hardly any rub off at all, just a little around my neck in the mornings. Most impressed.
