Help with root touch up on dip dye hair :-)

Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice please πŸ™‚

My hair is long and naturally almost black with the mid length to ends dip dyed a light brown/blonde colour. Unfortunately I have a fair amount of grey that comes through at the roots. More often than not I will go to the salon to get my roots done and to lighten up the dip dye part of my hair but due to being skint I sometimes touch up my roots at home.

In the past when I do my roots I cover the light parts of my hair in coconut oil so that when I rinse the black dye out it doesn't darken the light bits- but the light bits always end up a bit darker after I have washed the dye out.

I was wondering if there is anything else I can try to ensure the light bits of my hair don't darken when I touch up my roots?

Thanks πŸ™‚

When I wash my ombre I get the ends wet first then wring them a bit and slather on conditioner. Then I hold the ends out in front of my face while tipping the top of my head back into the water.

Agreed, slather the dipdye in conditioner and hold out of the way of the black rinse.

You can also wrap the ends in foils or cling film.
