So I've been using Adore Purple Rage for the last few months and liking it very much. Until a few weeks ago. I did a bleach bath on my roots, dyed my hair as I always do, and my roots came out pink. I thought it might be the new shampoo I was using leaving some residue, so I bought a bottle of my old shampoo, washed my hair, dyed it again...still pink. So I thought, maybe it was a bad batch, ordered another bottle from a different seller, waited three weeks for it to get to me, dyed my hair again today, and my roots are still pink!
So after some Googling, it turns out the ingredients on the bottles I have are different from both the old formula and the new formula, as listed on Beeunique. Here are the ingredients on what I have:
Aqua/Water/Eau, aloe vera (aloe barbadensis), citric acid, hydroyzed collagen, octoxynol-9, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, ppg-1 PPG9 lauryl glycol ether, methylchoroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, propylene glycol, Trimethylsilyamodimethicone, sodium citrate, Glycerin, fragrance.
May contain: CI42090, CI45100, CI28440, CI42520, CI19140
Unfortunately I don't have any of the good bottles left to compare. And this might be just be my memory getting fuzzy in my old age, but it seems to have a stronger smell now, and the texture is weird; I'd describe the old texture as syrupy, but this seemed like colored water once it had been sitting on my hair for a while. It was almost like my roots had soaked it up. I'm not sure how well it's sticking to the rest of my hair, since I have several months of purple dye built up; my strand test came out fine though. It's also not staining my skin at all; the old Adore didn't stain too badly, but my ears were still purple for a day or two, and now they're clean after just one wash. Oh, and the splatter on my bathroom floor has faded significantly in less than a month, while its older brother is still a fairly vibrant purple, months later. Then there's the pinkness; one thing I liked about Purple Rage is that it didn't fade pink like so many similar purples do.
So I guess the point of this long rambling post is to ask if anyone has any insight into this? Or is it just that Adore has changed their formula for the worse and I need to find a new dye?
Did you buy one of them from beeunique? Are they reputable sellers? There have been fake dyes around in the past. So that's always possible.
I've not heard of a formula change, but that doesn't mean it's not happened.
I bought them from Amazon, from two different sellers, both of whom had a good rating. I've bought Adore from both sellers in the past. If it is a fake dye, what are the odds that they're both selling the same fake dye?
(I'm in Canada, so my sources for affordable hair dye are rather limited.)
Honestly, I don't know how likely is they're both fake. It depends on a lot of things I just can't answer. It's even possible they've been offered some cheap and bought it without realising it might be fake. It's hard to know.
If I were you, I'd just get some blue and mix it in to the purple. Or buy from a well known US website. I did google and see a few websites in Canada that carry adore, so might be worth seeing if you can find reviews from them. I buy a lot from Amazon, but it can be pretty tricky sometimes.
So I did some Googling and it seems you might be right, they might have both bought from the same supplier and not realized it was fake. Like I said, both of the sellers have mostly positive ratings with a few "I never received my order." If there hasn't been a formula change, then something is definitely fishy.
