I have noticed that I get strong, vibrant colours after using direct dyes and literally hours to a day later they have lost their vibrancy. I'm wondering if its the porosity of my hair? Is the pigment literally sitting on top of it and sliding off when I brush/put my head on pillows etc? If this is the case is there anything I could do to address this? I use Olaplex 3 once every week or 2 (has 1 and 2 in the salon) and a protein treatment once per week. I tend to wash my hair every other day or else it gets very greasy. I know to use cold water and sulphate free shampoo to tend to the colour but my problem is experiencing fade BEFORE I even get near water! Thanks all! π
What other products do you use? If you use a lot of silicones, it might be the issue. Or yes, it could be the porosity of your hair.
I avoid silicones, don't believe any of my products contain them. Would you suggest a protein treatment and then clarifying shampoo prior to dying? Thank you Janine.
Heat makes hair fade dramatically! Avoid blow drying/ straightening and any heat styling, don't sit for too long in the sun
Ah that's a good point Gothicle! Where do you live? My colour lasts less time here where it's very windy and there's salt in the air as I live right by the sea!
That is a good point. Using straighteners can have a dramatic affect.
I had that problem when using Manic panic, but not with any other brand. I never noticed it on my pillows or clothes etc but it literally seemed to vanish into thin air! My hair is very porous. It takes colour easily but fades quickly too. Maybe you should try a few different brands. Directions and Special effects dyes don't fade nearly as fast for me.
