So, I'm growing my grey out- eek! And it's not going too badly but I do want to be a lovely silvery, ashy colour. I've bought some Pravana Silver. What's the best way to apply it? Diluted? What ratios?

This is me and the lovely silvery grey is what I'd love to achieve

I haven't used pravana silver but I think it's pretty highly pigmented. I would suggest doing a stand test with it heavily diluted and then stand testing more pigmented mixes adding a little more at a time until you get the colour you want. The ratios are so dependent on the exact shade of your hair it's best to work it out with trial and error.

I would apply it neat or maybe mixed with a smidge of conditioner to make it easier to apply. Always do a strand test as it really does vary with different hair types. are you planning on using it to cover your natural grey? I will be interested to see if it takes to naturallly white hair as I have only used it on bleached hair, but my natural colour is pretty grey these days and i am considering giving up bleaching my roots and letting it grow out.

Oh I think I was thinking about the nirvel one which is quite dark 🙁

I think (from reading other peoples reviews) that the Pravana Silver used to be a darker colour. I have only ever had one tube, so i can't compare, but it is a medium silver undiluted not a charcoal grey like the Nirvel. I used it diluted 50:50 for a pastel silver.

@Wicked Pixie I might do a fair few strand tests first! Yep was planning to do it all over I reckon, just see how it goes!

Hi there, just me again; can you use purple shampoo on dry hair to tone it? ( and haven't been brave and used the pravana yet!)

Yes, you can apply purple shampoo to dry hair just like a dye, it will have a stronger effect as it isn't diluted at all.

I am still waiting for your feedback on the Pravana over natural grey btw! I don't have enough length of regrowth to try it myself yet

I haven't used it yet, I have a worrying feeling it'll make it too dark, I've used a crazy colours stain and I hate the colour it turns my hair. Sticking to the purple shampoo for now 😉

Just mix it with conditioner and don't leave it on for too long if you are worried it will be too dark. I mixed it 50/50 to get a lovely pastel silver, but it was over bleached hair not natural grey.
