Hi! I'm new here, I hope I'm in the right place but apologies if I've got anything wrong!
I'm looking for advice- I've googled and googled but I seem to want to go in the opposite direction from the rest of the Internet! My (naturally med/dark brown with lots of grey) is currently bleached blonde- it's fairly bright but ashy thanks to silver shampoo. It had a bleach bath a few weeks ago to remove some purple Directions that had faded to green for some reason, but I've been carefully looking after it and it's in fairly ok condition now.
I want to go a darker warmer blonde- a sort of strawberry blonde, but I'm not majorly fussed on an exact shade, I just feel that a bit more colour and warmth will suit me better since for the moment I don't need to be super light. But what can I use? I've been looking at a Superdrug 'honey blonde' semi permanent, and I've been looking at Majirel in 8.3, but I'm not sure which is suitable for my hair with it being a) a 'teensy bit' over processed and b) really light at the moment
I can't really physically get to a Sally's atm due to disability but I have access to Amazon and other websites lol!
Any advice much appreciated. I'll try to add a picture of my hair's current shade... My roots need doing but that's almost the easy part now lol.
Thank you! *thx*
Avoid anything with peroxide if your hair is fragile.
The superdrug honey blonde is actually pretty good. Wella Colour Fresh have a range of blonde shades that are non damaging too.
I prefer to dilute Adore browns to make blonde shades, as they last longer. I like Mocha with a little Medium brown heavily diluted with conditioner. You can make any shade of blonde with these two dyes, from honey to beige.
Thanks for the reply!
Only problem is with the peroxide, the Superdrug will have it in and it's an unknown volume- which is why I was wondering if it was better to 'diy' with a volume that at least I'm aware of? However then there's the fact I'm no hairdresser and the box has it all made up, lol! I shall have a look at the Adore and Colour Fresh ranges though- I've seen Colour Fresh before when I was goin silver but haven't looked since. Do you know if there's a shade chart anywhere online to be seen? The main problem I'm having is in choosing the right shade for my hair, partly because I'm so indecisive lol. What do the Adore dyes fade like?
Whilst my hair is damaged its in way better condition than it was in the summer when a box dye ruined it, it's got shine and strength back thanks to lots of oil and protein treatments so whilst I don't think it'd be strong enough for a full bleach or anything (and thankfully I don't want to!) I think it'd be ok with a low vol semi? I dunno- I just have no experience of going light to dark and I'm trying not to jump in and think later like I normally do 😂
I thought you were referring to Superdrugs non-peroxide ranges, they have a Honey Blonde is both Colour Effects and Colour Episodes, both of which are perfectly safe on bleached hair.
If it were me I would avoid peroxide entirely and just go for direct dyes, especially f you only want it a shade or two darker.
If you want to use an oxidative dye get a professional demi that requires a very low vol peroxide (less than 10 vol ideally) Remember bleach damage is cumulative, so whilst processing with a low vol is less damaging than a box dye with 30 vol it is still adding to the damage, and could be the straw that breaks the camels back.
The Adore mix i have been using on my daughter (diluted Mocha, with Medium Brown and a drop of blue black to make it more ash) just fades to a lighter blonde. Mocha is warm toned and Medium brown is ash toned, so you can adjust the colour quite easily by varying the proportions. We found it faded too warm on her without the blue black, but her base is a yellow blonde, not as light as yours, plus you want a warmer toned blonde.
If you are not comfortable mixing then Colour Fresh would be my suggestion, but it is a lot more expensive and doesnt last as long as Adore IME.
