first-time pastel

hey! so I've had good and bad experiences with semi-permanents and now I'm ready to try again, but this time I thought it'd be better to ask first from someone who knows their stuff...

i currently have very light ash blonde hair (not green like in the photo...) dyed with a permanent color, and i'm going for a pastel silvery lilac with directions dyes (silver and lilac, obviously.) the thing i'm not sure about is doing semi-permanent over a permanent - i think i've done that once successfully, but i actually have no idea if you're even supposed to do that? i really don't want to bleach my hair since it always brings out these horrible red undertones, but i could try going even lighter with a permanent...

so what do you guys think? :> also if anyone has previous experience with directions lilac+silver what are your thoughts?

Permanent dyes that lighten your hair contain bleach, and there's no problem with dying over a permanent colour, if your hair is light enough there's no need to bleach again.
The top of your hair looks like it is probably light enough for lilac to work, but from the picture the ends look more yellow. I'm Not sure if I'm imagining that haha but they might need to be toned before putting lilac on. Lilac and silver both need a base that's as close to white as possible to come out right so you can make a toner out of diluted purple dye with conditioner to get rid of yellow tones in your hair.

Lilac and silver don't last too long, so leave the dye on for hours, aim for overnight. This will make the dye last longer in your hair.
